Your only options are US74 east to I40 or US64 west to US411 or I75. DO NOT try to take any shortcuts thru this area with a 53' trailer. You will regret it if you do.

Wild Murphy and spacester Thank this.

This is the route I took. Not fast, but pretty clearly the way "they" want you to go.

I checked and checked the VA DOT site's chart of restrictions, 441 thru the park is not listed. So I called them, and got a return call (much too late to help, but I asked after they closed) and the nice lady said that it is a federal road so it's not on the chart. I suggested they add it.

Yeah I came in on 64 to Murphy, and that was no picnic, but going west would be a lot worse, with those cliff walls on your right a lot.

    Thanks for the great answer!

Funny thing about that. I just started with a new company, and forgot to grab the atlas!!! Also my GPS went tits up. So Google maps is all I've got cuz I am too cheap and broke to buy either one. LOL

Yes they are. But I wasn't totally sure until I saw the sign. Oh me of little faith.

Holy crap, this Appalachia driving is the real deal!

I'm from the west and until now, had driven quite a bit of NC and VA, but NOTHING like what I just did. I used to snicker at folks who talked about the difficulties here, but no more. These roads take the cake!

The time I drove across US50 in WV, I ended up being 2 hours late for my pickup. I had to load the next day but they let me park on the property and told me where I could find a bathroom and good place to eat. All things considered I thought that was pretty cool of them.

The next morning when I told the guy who loaded my trailer what happened, he laughed and said "Ain't no truckin' cross West Virginia!"
