Pretty much, get rid of automatics and anti lock brakes and make sure they're AC doesn't work for the first summer they drive, that'll clear half the new crop out inside a month.

I drive a mixer, so you gotta get close to stuff, run stuff over, put the truck at an extreme angle etc.

The new trucks won’t even let the driver put it where it needs to go because the anti roll and anti collision crap. Beats me why a mixer came with that mess.

Yeah duck, that about sounds like my truck.. '93 no anti lock, 9 speed, & an ac that is about as rigged as they come.. Fake wood dash made out of metal. It grows on you though. Become one with the truck so to speak..

They should have trucks like these at the CDL schools. That might help weed out the weak.. :evil5:

Well if you prefer to live in those conditions than that's on you buddy. You're #### right I like AC during the summertime and no I wouldn't drive a truck without it.

After about a week I realized that I didn't fit into the mold of a stereotypical trucker...so i just did it my way, and over 34 years later it still works for me. I read the criticism of people who like to dress comfortable like myself in here daily. I am not into big boots and belt buckles. That annoys some people, it did in 1985, still does today. Some sweaty boots and jeans on a hot summer day is so uncomfortable, i don't wear them. The first 5 places I drove for, before I bought my own truck, they didn't care how I dressed. I always got the job done, didn't scratch their trucks, and never complained either because I was thankful for the job. I treat my employees with the same respect still today, as I was shown then. I actually don't have any drivers who drive around in big sweaty steel toed boots. Yes I have young drivers, and old ones to. But a happy driver is going to do a better job than someone who hates their boss and coworkers. I cringe every time another thread gets started because someone wore running shoes or sandals while driving. Honestly I think that is smart!
But blaming everything on young people is ridiculous. Actually I think old people are the worst drivers on the road. Need proof, watch the church parking lot as church gets out on Sunday.

Reminds me of one of my favorite quotes.

" We, the unwilling, led by the unknowing, are doing the impossible for the ungrateful. We have done so much, for so long, with so little, we are now qualified to do anything with nothing.”

I probably wasn't stereotypical back then either. Wore tennis shoes because they were comfortable. Pic is from 1974,with my 69 4070A. NTC 335,13spd,Hendrickson solid spring, those roof mount AC's were a joke, never worked right back then. No air ride anything.
And in 42 years as an OO,never back into or scratched anyones ride. Proud of that.
