I started trucking in a 1996 international.

Not that old but no AC. I didn’t even have a shirt on half the time lol.

You can dress how you want and still not be a slob. Being a slob is more than clothes. It’s a lifestyle.

 

It’s happening more and more. A good friend owns / drives a 79 A model KW, he put a new original style bumper on it and it lasted 3 months. Setting in a truck stop out west taking a break, guy flies through the parking lot making a left turn around my Freind who was on the end. BAM! turns the new bumper into a letter L and puts a terrible crack in the fender. Guy was 60 or 61 with 18 months experience after driving school......, It’s all ages.

 

^^^^ true!!! This is part of the reason so many idiots are running down the road with their left foot on the dash...... many look at the job as a payed vacation, and get to comfortable.

 

I was working for an old trucking company bought by new people who don't know trucking. The oldest driver they had, legacy from previous owners, did the most damage. When he drove my truck on weekends there was always fresh damage on Monday, along with a trashed and filthy cab. Last I heard they gave that driver the newest trailer they had.

It's possible to be a suck-up and smooth people over and never learn anything about driving. That driver kept all kinds of cleaning stuff in the cab and never ever cleaned anything.

No wonder they're always hanging by a thread at that company.

A more recent hire there with almost 20 years tore the side off my cab with a tail swing.

The only important mile is the next one.

 

Lol, can you imagine how many pacifiers would be needed.....

 

Only reason I wear boots and jeans is because I'm required to. If it were up to me it would be shorts and sneakers. Or nothing at all. But NOBODY wants to see that.

 

Tee shirt, shorts and cowboy boots over here. If I was allowed...

They make me wear pants. Pants and boots is our dress code.

 

I sleep at a truck stop maybe once a month or so. I am so paranoid of some rookie damaging my truck, that I can't go to sleep until both spaces next to me are filled up

 

3 years of only parking at the fuel pumps and they will drive like rookies until they loose their license.

 

Switch to hazmat tanker. A lot less pre-terrorists and the trailers & customers are sooooo much easier to deal with.
