I just had my serpentine and water pump belts changed on my 2015 Kenworth MX13 and the dealer charged me for the removal of the radiator fan. Did it have to be removed and if so can it be done without shifting the radiator

I have never had to remove a fan blade to get belts on the MX in any chassis. The crank to fan drive belt is very short but I can ussually stretch it over the fan one blade at a time.
If the fan blade did require removal the radiator would most likely need to be leaned forward to get to the nuts without turning the back of your hand into a bloody pulp.BoxCarKidd Thanks this. -
Does the KW shop manual say to remove the fan

Dont remember ever having to remove a fan to change a belt. I guess theres always a 1st time, and lost memories. To be honest I think you got raped. I feel your pain I paid almost 1k today to fill an argon bottle.

Older Cats with v-belts and Horton clutch is a good example. I'm sure there are others. The crank to fan hub belts were too short to go around the blade. Either pull the hub off the block or pull the blade was the only option. Seemed like every one that came in had new alternator belts and the fan belts were cracked and worn to ####.

Nope the fan does not have to be removed and they probably didn’t remove it either.
