I have a couple questions about doing this swap. Current is MX13 in a 2013 386 Peterbilt.
What are the harness issues I'll run into to do this swap? Local Peterbilt told me that I'd have to swap out "all the harnesses," which doesn't sound right.
I'm aware that if I went to Detroit, there's harness adapter kits to go to a DD60, is the same true for Cummins ISX?
Are there any options that could be plug and play?
I have a spun bearing in the MX13 (which is at 974k miles) and I don't want to put any money into that motor.
    Seems better to swap it.
Can anyone offer insight into what would be the most practical, least complicated and least expensive option? It currently has an Eaton 10 speed automatic that came out of the factory like that, so for the short term, I'd like to find something that can marry to that.
Last 6 of the VIN is 197637
Thanks in advance for any insight. This will be my first go at this, so please be patient with me. I just need to know what I need to be aware of as I work through the problem.

Cheapest option would be to find a like for like MX motor and install that instead. You can get a sub 500k used one for about 15K +/- around 5000 depending on quality year and condition and last time i looked. Toss on about 5000-7500 if they wont take your MX as a core, brand new last i looked was around 25-30K for a mx engine. Plus then you would not need to make anything match or change anything else out. Labor would likely be between 5000-10,000 depending on how much of a pain in the ### the swap ends up being. Could be a lot more too if a bunch of stuff needs modification.

Now if you swap to a diffrent engine you start running into issues. The harness will partially work but a lot of adapters ends and such may and likely will need to be changed to fit. A lot of motor mounting hardware, radator hoses, fan shrouds, pipes and much much much more will need to be changed with the cost varying widly from bubbah making the parts in his basment for a couple K to $10K+ for a kit. And with that truck having 1 mil on it the stock harness is likely pretty rotted and worn so swapping it anyway wpuld just be smart. You would need some programing for the CCU and likely the ECM reprogramed to work. The emissions may need to be rerouted or altered to be compatable with the new engine (altered as in moving stuff around or swapping parts for compatable fits, not delete to be clear). You may end up getting a bunch of stuff on the transmission replaced depending on if stuff needs to be moved around. And a bunch more crap.

Honestly if your going to do an engine brand swap, unless your in cali or a other emissions nazi state or go to them a lotm i would call kustom truck and get a swap kit for a C13 or C15 and one of said engines then ploink a pre emissions engine in or any pre emissions engine and swap kit of your choice tbh. Cost will be comparable for the actual swap. The maintaince will be much lower though take more of it.

A like for like your looking at $40,000-45,000 tops if a shop does it for you and much less if you do the work yourself. A rebuild is $20,000 for a plat rebuild according to my local dealer. A swap to a diffrent engine entirely is going to start at low $40,000s and upto $80,000 for a shop to do it. And if you do that you would be smart to put a new transmission in. A 10 to 18 speed swap is around $15,000 installed as of 2 months ago when i did mine and if you do both at once you will easily get anothet million out of the rig for a small fraction of new price.

Thanks for your thoughtful input. Everything you've told me is pretty much what I thought, but better to ask some one who's done this than overlook and make a mistake, or miss a detail.

So there's a couple bits of information that might help me, and I really appreciate the input already. I have an EPA 10 MX 13 that's deleted (all the gear is physically still on the truck). I agree that a like for like would be the simplest short term way to do it. I do eventually plan to do a full swap of engine, transmission, rear, all electrical harnesses, but I've just leveraged back into owning a truck (this one that's down right now) and I'm in those early stages of building up the funds when this happened. That said, are you aware of any specific places to source a like engine, or a place that helps with financing with a credit score in the high 500's, low 600's? We were in the process of starting our credit repair also, so we've got some hurdles, but I really think this is possible to fix, even if it plays out on a longer time line. This is the 3rd truck I've owned over the years, but the first time I've ever been over leveraged, had a low credit score or was immediately limited with funds, so those aspects are new to me. In the past, when large breakdowns occurred, I was cash solvent, had an 805 credit score and lots of immediate resources to resolve even big issues. You did give me some solid numbers (I checked around yesterday) as to cost potentials and I think right now, my biggest hurdle is going to be financing. Any insight is appreciated !!

Going from 10 to 13 is mostly going to be a wireing issue iirc so new harness maybe some sensors? Everything else should be simular enough a reprogram will fix it. Cant say how it would react to a deleted rig but assume same steps to undelete as a epa 10 engine for a dealer to install.

As for financeing i know a few but i wouldnt wish them on my worst enemy. Intrest alone would eat you alive. They are options in a pinch....but you would be better off just eating the loss then dealing with those bloodsuckers for more then a couple of grand. You MIGHT try foley cat over in colby ks though. They can maybe get you set up with a cat card for the engine install at least.

For now id recomend something like this.

2011 PACCAR MX-13 TRUCK ENGINE FOR SALE #3948

JJ has a pretty decent rep for good used and rebuilt engines. Or russ fisher truck parts in terre haute in is also good. Ive gotten a HUGE number of hard to get parts from him. Not going to lie his scrapyard has saved my wallet more then once

Thanks Fox, that engine is a direct swap. Getting the money is the issue, obviously. I'm going to hang onto his info though. Eventually, the engine will need to be swapped, but I think I'm going to back burner it and go work as a company monkey for a while and keep my household finances floating. I really appreciate your help man. You've been excellent with your insight, I'm super grateful to you
