I doubt in 20 years there will even be a Cascadia from this era still in working condition. They don't build things these days to last anymore.BoxCarKidd and macavoy Thank this. -

Update.
I got the oil filter cut. very clean, no metal whatsoever. I went ahead and swapped out the oil. When I went to start pulling the plugs from the rears. This happened:
I will try again on Monday. I did find something interesting and encouraging. Inside the driver door next to the leather strap that keeps the door from swinging wild was a piece of duck tape that said "next service 2477 hrs" Currently there are 2392 hours on the motor. I find this very encouraging, someone was doing regular maintenance. -
BoxCarKidd, tsavory, BIGZILLA and 1 other person Thank this.

I believe that we used mineral oil of some weight in the trans, and standard gear lube in the rears. I think all the modern stuff including synthetic should be fine, 50W in the trans (both) and 85-140W in the rears?
It may be best to get this confirmed by some of the other more knowledgeable folks though.BoxCarKidd and BIGZILLA Thank this. -
Oxbow Thanks this.

I will 2nd that. 50w in trans & 85-140 in the rears. I personally would not waste money on a synthetic oil. There is a recent thread on this subject on the Just Old Trucks website under Peter Js Place. The site is a little harder to navigate thru but there are some VERY wise fellows on there that can tell you how many threads there on a cummins head bolt without even thinkin about it.
Oxbow Thanks this.
