    HAHAHA :biggrin_2559:

I doubt in 20 years there will even be a Cascadia from this era still in working condition. They don't build things these days to last anymore.

    BoxCarKidd and macavoy Thank this.

My grandfather told my father that the cars of his generation would never be collectable because they didn't hand make them one at a time. Have you priced a 58 Buick Roadmaster lately? My father told me that the cars of my generation would never be collectable because they lacked style. Have you priced a 1970 Cuda Lately? The truth is the next generation will choose how they look back at ours.. A Cascadia..... I don't think so but, I don't get to choose what the yet to be born will want.

    Update.

I got the oil filter cut. very clean, no metal whatsoever. I went ahead and swapped out the oil. When I went to start pulling the plugs from the rears. This happened: image.png

I will try again on Monday. I did find something interesting and encouraging. Inside the driver door next to the leather strap that keeps the door from swinging wild was a piece of duck tape that said "next service 2477 hrs" Currently there are 2392 hours on the motor. I find this very encouraging, someone was doing regular maintenance. :D

Hey Bigzilla, sorry I forgot to mention this earlier, and maybe you are aware of the oil requirements of these engines, but you should use a single weight oil like Delo 100 30W, or maybe 40W in your part of the country. The old 2 strokes don't play well with multi-viscosity oils.

Thanks. I am aware, I used 40w Rotella. But if you can tell me what to put in the SQHDs, main and aux tranny that would save some googleing

I believe that we used mineral oil of some weight in the trans, and standard gear lube in the rears. I think all the modern stuff including synthetic should be fine, 50W in the trans (both) and 85-140W in the rears?
It may be best to get this confirmed by some of the other more knowledgeable folks though.

I will 2nd that. 50w in trans & 85-140 in the rears. I personally would not waste money on a synthetic oil. There is a recent thread on this subject on the Just Old Trucks website under Peter Js Place. The site is a little harder to navigate thru but there are some VERY wise fellows on there that can tell you how many threads there on a cummins head bolt without even thinkin about it.
