Yeah sometimes I feel like I'm bothering people. I just want to find the best starting point I can for my family and me. Dude your funny. I'll pay it too for all the information I been requesting.

Trust me, Your not the only one taking notes.

That is too funny man! It reminds me of that old office joke - the sign that reads "Questions answered for $2. Stupid Questions for $5" LOL!
Seriously though man, I don't mind helping ya out. Just remember that I can only tell ya what I PERSONALLY experienced and witnessed. Also remember that for every day that passes, that is yet another day that I am an "ex-employee" of McElroy. I do still keep in touch with a few my old McElroy buddies, so I am kind of "in the loop" about what's happening over there, but the absolute BEST advice I can give you is this:
If you indeed live in "Perryman, MD", then you are only a half an hour drive to "Perryville, MD". There is a Pilot Truck Stop there on MD-222 (Heather Lane). McElroy drivers can only fuel at Pilots, so many of the guys going up 95 North will stop there. If you are really motivated, you could take a journey up to Hagerstown. MD. There is a Pilot off of Half Way Blvd and tons of Mcelroy drivers hang out there waiting for their Lowe's Distribution loads to be ready. Catch one of the current drivers and ask them what they think and how many miles they are currently getting. Every McElroy driver I ever met was a decent guy, so I am sure they wouldn't mind answering a few questions for free
My average runs were usually 200 or less miles "empty" and 200 or more miles "loaded". So I guess you could say an average run would be 400 miles total, but it differs every single day. Longest loaded run I did was Mt. Jewett, PA to Hartselle, AL (can't remember the empty miles on that one) but it was over 800 miles loaded. Shortest run I ever did was a sheetrock run from Baltimore, MD to Baltimore MD - 20 miles LOL! But that was one of two runs for the day
OK - just remembered after typing all of that above - Longest run was Empty Move from Va. Beach to Cadiz, KY 789 miles, Loaded from Cadiz, KY to Hagerstown, MD - 729 miles. Shortest run was Middleburg, NC to Henderson, NC - 7 miles ROTF!Last edited: Jul 23, 2010

fnlou88, I just read on another thread that Mcelroy won't be hiring for about 6-8 weeks. Thats ok I had to push my start date back for school any how. I can't remember exactly what he said except for their freight slowing down.

It's all good my brother. As a Christian, I believe that EVERYTHING happens for a REASON. Just like the lyrics of that old song stolen from The Bible - "To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven"
Virtually EVERYTHING you have ever purchased or consumed came to you or your point of purchase via a TRUCK. A "Drug free" Driver with NO criminal record AND EXPERIENCE is virtually GUARANTEED employment. The "trick" is to get that EXPERIENCE. McElroy worked for me in "my season" and for "my purpose". I pray that you find what you need in yours my brother!MaximumTexas Thanks this. -

While I certainly don't appreciate seeing the Lord's name taken in vain, I also feel it is more important to be an "example" rather than an "accuser".
Also, just as every "thing" has it's time and place, THIS forum is about "favorite trucking companies" and NOT about proper Christian belief and behavior. I merely mentioned my belief in regards to MD Steelers fan's apparent disappointment with respect to his "timeline" and the possibility of his finding a good match to start his career.
And finally, I am not a "moderator" and this is not my message board, so rather than taking it upon myself to "mention" something about some other poster's language choices, I merely exercise the same right that you presumably have - which is (specifically) to ignore or respond. I simply chose the former. I suggest you contact a moderator if you feel that the terms and conditions as outlined in the forum rules need to be ammended in some way.windsmith Thanks this. -
I believe you, my says the samething all the time. I'm probally not going to able till early next year. Going to use tax money to get started. I don't want to leave the wife and kids at home without any money, or have to wait for me to get out on my own to start making money. I hate to have to wait but thats what I have to do. Just like you said theirs definately a reason for it. Its just something I have to do. There still will be companies hiring then to. I still might have questions though. Still going to keep researching everything. Thanks again fnlou88
