It is good to see a review on someone that played their game and the success that came with it. This proves you can do good with those companies providing you are optimistic.

I got a buddy of mine that was a trainer for them. They routed him in one day and offered him a good job. He is the safety manager now. They provide him a car to commute each week home. Pay him mileage and put him up during the week and pay him a nice salary.

I don't think you could really ask for more. I don't mind, in fact I like that they want to see that you are not blowing smoke either. There are a lot of great interview folks who have no intention of carrying their weight or conforming to the expectations of your employer.

I don't wear my religion on my sleeve, but it is important to me, and one of the reasons I want to be home at least a couple of Sundays a month. I am still not getting my hopes too high because it will be a while before I can actually start school and be ready to move from school to a cab due to extended family we are taking care of. I can't be away at all right now - we've been told 6 - 12 months. I hope McElroy will need a driver or two then and they think I can fit. From what you have told me about the company and the philosophy of the whole organization (starting at the top) - they are a perfect fit for me. I just hope circumstances and timing fall into line.

In the mean time I will try to learn everything I can about the industry and companies to be able to make good decisions - especially if I can't get on at McElroy. I am ready and willing to give 100% +. it is just a matter of when and where.

    Thanks again, and stay safe.

When I first started reading the forums I became a little disheartened because I started reading the "stay away from" and "______ company sucks". I was afraid that no matter my good intentions and maximum effort, there was no good companies to go to. I am so grateful for the advice and information about good companies I can't even put it into words. Our life has been a test for a while and the negative threads and posts I read early on seemed to pile on. Knowing there are a couple of companies that seem like a perfect fit for me is like a light at the end of the tunnel. I will maintain a calm E & E (escape and evade) protocol in case that light is a locomotive :biggrin_2559: McElroy is # 1 on my wish list now with another company less than 40 miles from me at 1A. It is very similar to McElroy just not as big with only one yard and they only hire within 50 miles of that yard. Even if neither of those are a possibility when the time to move comes, I am now confident in my believe there is some place for me in trucking.

    Stay safe

    FnLou,
Wish you much sucess with Blulinx. I enjoyed my stint with DHP and if it weren't for the fact that I had to pay the Ex 1/2 of my Military retirement, , they would have had to chase me out of there, good people and a really great working environment. I said from day 1 that I loved my job, I got to drive my truck and be home at night and on week ends.

Mabe one day I will get to do that again.

To banjer picker: I hear ya brother. No worries man, you will get some Sundays....not many, but depending on where you live, if there is a receiver near your home you might just be given a load that is due on a Monday close by the house and you can just get up "butt thirty" in the A.M. on Monday morning and get it done. It happened for me a handfull of times and I was always grateful for those. Good Luck and God Bless!

Ike: Thanks Brother! I am really friggin stoked about Bluelinx man. To this very moment I can't get over the fact that I am really home. I keep feeling like I still have to leave out on Sunday. In fact, my "shower bag" is still hanging in my bathroom because I am so used to having to pack it back up to take on the road with me! My wife has told me three times so far that I could put all that stuff back in the cabinets because I will be home from now on, but I still can't believe it LOL! I will pray for you Brother, and I am confident that you will get behind the wheel "locally" sooner than later. Good luck and God Bless!

Local work is a new world for him. Most guys think of being home more without realizing what local means. That ten our break starts when you pull on to the yard and when your pulling off the yard. All in all you may get a hug and kiss on your way to bed if you want some rest(remember clock is ticking). He is probably busting his rear doing that local work LoL He aint got no time to reply:)

Blulinx was our competition (for lack of a better word) We had a lot of the same customers. I know how they run, and your right some days are 15 hours.

I have pulled on the lot at 0300, strapped down, tarped and started my log to be at my 1st of 12 -13 stops at 0500.

Get back to the yard about 6 or 7 that night.

Funny, when you arrive at work before anyone else, and get back to the yard and they're all already gone for the day.

    Local.
