All start from the bottom, most stay there :) Compared to the total number of trucking jobs, proverbial & elusive good ones are in overwhelming minority. Of course, official American mythology of "rag to riches" claims that everybody can get ahead if he works/tries hard; if not, obviously you didn't try hard, the key in not to whine, run rat race hard and blame yourself if you stuck at the bottom, because, obviously everyone who works hard can get where he wants to be, see above. Mindset like this helps American ruling class $ave pretty penny on secret police & labor intimidation; we are the freest, because we are our own jailers :)

What???? My recruiter promised me a new Mack with an APU, dedicated regional run, home every 6 days for 48 hrs, and all this as soon as I finished trucking school and a month of finishing. You mean the recruiter misled me?? Wow, I am shocked!!!:biggrin_25523:

Hey, I'm going to drving school in mid October and I'll be the newest of the newbies. I am looking at WSE because even though the recruiter is no doubt blowing some smoke, I still developed a rapport with him and I like him. I do like the fact that WSE is not a big as some of the other guys, and I have talked with a couple drivers at the local Pilot. Fact is that everyone lies, and everyone has some kind of agenda. You just have to decide if you can live with it. I know my first few months at WSE (or wherever) is going to be a learning experience, and my immediate concerns will involve not backing into another drivers rig at the Petro. I'm paying for my own school so if things just absolutely don't work out, I can look somewhere else.

I spent a lot of time on these forums trying to decide who was the best starter carrier to go with. You know what...there is none. For every person thats just swears permanent alligence to carrier A, there is another driver who thinks the company president ranks just south of Hitler. I think the key for new guys like me is to keep mouth shut, eyes open, and listen to everything we're told. That said, if your finishing trainer is not giving you what you need, speak up!! Spending 4 weeks with a trainer who won't let you do any of the backing (as noted elsewhere in these forums) is a waste of your time.

Anyway, my unsolicited opinion for what it's worth....and one more post towards allowing me to PM!! lol

I've read similar posts in other threads. I'm curious where this information is coming from. Who's paying the kickback? It can't be the trucking schools, they don't charge enough tuition to pay that kind of kickback. There are some federal tax credits that just about any employer (not just trucking companies) are allowed to take if they hire employees meeting certain criteria (unemployed for so long, food stamp recepients, etc etc) but the credit is nowhere near $10000, and it does not apply to every new hire.

Sounds like urban legend to me. Prove me wrong, I'll be the first to graciously apologize. I'm nothing if not supremely polite!

Excellent post and excellent advice cagey! So many folks just jump into this blind, with no research whatsoever. And then you have the ones who want somebody else tell them what they should do.

All any forum can do, is to give out information from the various points of view of the members. People need to make their own decisions, and then live with them.

My son about to become a dad, loads trucks with soda pop with a pallet truck for $9.00 an hour, and he has a four year college degree.

I have nothing but good things to say about my trainer great Guy and I still talk to him on a weekly basis. But he assures me that my complaints are exactly like his other trainees that he still talks with as well he tries to be honest and for the most part I find he is. So training.g part was good in my opinion

In all honesty miles are gonna be down sometimes. As a company that trains students and has o/o's, the trainers and O/O's will get the miles first. The rest goes company wide. I can understand your frustration, but did you ask to change FM"S??? Did you ask how you could be a better asset for WSE??? I wish you the best of luck man.

I did ask for a different fleet mge but my beef is if there aren't enough miles out there don't lie in these magazines saying people will average 500+ miles a day. and tell me we don't have enough miles and I will take my services out there I gave my notice 2 times and they keep talking me into staying saying I will get more mile but just need to be patient. Then I feel like a #### head for giving my notice then 2 weeks later still no miles and same excuse. The world would be a much better place if people were honest
