Well I finished orientation on Friday of last week. I was prepared and ready to begin my training with my TE. I received a call from him on Sunday morning and he stated that he usually trains student driver from the Charlotte OC. He stated that he would contact someone from the Atlanta OC to determine how we could meet and call me back. Well Monday at 4:45, I called him since he had not called me. He stated that he had been in class all day and had not been able to contact anyone in Atlanta. He stated that he was headed to Nashville with a load. So I contact someone over training in PA and she tells me to call my TE back and discuss how we could meet. I call him back and he tells me, look I cant afford to put you up in a hotel next weekend and he will be back on Friday headed home. He lives 120 miles north of Charlotte. Finally I email the person over training in PA after contacting my DBL in Atlanta. The DBL tells me I don't have anything to do with that and I cant help ya. Well after thinking my TE said he will be headed out Tuesday after Christmas and back on Friday or Saturday for his 34 hr reset. So I will actually be in a hotel for 3 weekends straight. My TE said his training is 10 days minimum. Go figure. I requested a new TE, but have not heard from anyone. Hope this is not how Schneider operates!!!!

I'd like to give you encouragement however i never trained with schneider and it is a Holiday period so i would say if schneider is footing the bill and paying you try and suck it up and get thru training. When you are on the road with a trainer and they take hometime it used to be policy the trainer has to provide you with a room. I wish you luck and if your close to home i'd check in the hotel and then go home. Check in so schneider will pay you while you wait, Good Luck and Merry Christmas.

Can anybody give me any info on G & P trucking out of South Carolina? Considering talking to them to see what they offer?

Yes the average training cycle for a TE is two weeks. It is up to the TE wether they put you in a motel or have you sit in the truck while they are in home time. So if you are with a regional TE (like I am) you will spend a few weekends in a free motel being paid to watch tv and kick back. Sorry if you don't appreciate it, but you could be sitting in a powerless truck in his driveway if that's any better hehe. Be glad that you at least have a TE. Many of our new guys don't have one because we are overbooked. And yes your DBL has nothing to do with your training. They don't do much till you get a truck and they take responcability for you other then to authorize expenses you accrue in getting to/from training. Sorry to say you hopped in at a bad time of year with the holidays screwing the pooch for drivers taking off but it could be much worse. And as to your last post, I would give Schneider a much bigger chance then to jump ship already, if nothing else you are on record as an employee now so you will look like a job hopper if you leave and worse then that I'm pretty sure Schneider will bill you for all money spent on their end for your orientation and training thus far. Most companies do if you quit before 90 days is up so I'm sure Schneider would as well.
Like I said I am a TE and wouldn't mind answering questions if you have them, so let me know if you have something. Only advice I can give right now is to get used to this kind of time frame madness and frustration, it's part of the game regardless of your company choice, and if your frustrated enough to jump jobs just over this little bump then trucking is going to make you pull your hair out. Take a breath, chill and see where the cards fall befor making a quick decision.

gaeducator i can say that the holidays is when a lot of people take vacation and that could be the reason you've not heard from them. I am in the process of becoming an IC with schneider as a matter of fact i just got home from my Physical and drug screen and my recruiter when i called her today told me she'll be out on vacation next week. At Schneider if you dont use it you lose it.So hang in there and keep positive. once you get your own truck you'll be happy you did.

In the meantime , we get paid provided we dont refuse to go out with a TE for whatever reasn. In that case we go to off salary status until we go out.
When I called on Tuesday like directed, its the same deal. They are trying to get drivers home who want to be and plus we have to deal with vacations at this time.
I'm fortunate that I can be at home waiting. Sucks all the same , I'm ready to get after it. -
Enjoying my family, will forget about Schneider until next week. Wifey told me to focus on the reason for the season and focus on my faith and enjoy being at home. All of the encouragement helps. Thanks fellows. Cant wait to get on the road and get my own truck.
