Deploy the wings and pull back on the steering wheel.

What movie was that where Burt Reynolds said "Put your head between your knees and kiss your ### goodbye?
I think it was Cannonball run, the first one.

Anyway, if you want a real response, I would be looking for anything I could use to scrub off speed. Could be a guardrail, rocks, the truck in front of me that I am going to take out anyway, my sisters ex-husbands (both) etc.
If that did not work I would try to lay it over as fast as possible, before I got going any faster. I see no need to try and ride it out if I know the outcome.

I would also be yelling at myself the whole way down for using my brakes when I know darn well that I was saving them for a special occasion, and I think this was it.

isnt that when you roll up behind a friendly trucker and tell him your problem on the cb and he will let you bump draft him to the bottom and use his jake and brakes to help save your life and slow you down!! is that the right answer???

Ok I have heard of the whole drafting with another driver slowing you down but how REALISTIC is this?

Seriouly I would try to hold till the first escape ramp. WCP a pretrip wouldn't do any good if a part fails. True a driver can catch many things in a PTI, but some parts don't give an indication of failing till it does.

Check those brakes for temperature; if a drum is cold when the rest are warm, there is something wrong. I have pulled trailers that had brakes properly adjusted but some obviously weren't working when checked this way.

I do check my brakes, but I hadn't thought to check for temperature before.

Try #1 and # 5. If you make it then call dispatch, jump out the door and blame everybody else.
