When I key the radio, the needle goes well into the red but I can't calibrate it for tuning because there is no calibrate option on this cb. What should I do?
My cb has an swr meter but no calibrate option?

What radio is it? There are a few that automatically calibrate now...
Another Canadian driver and BTShepp Thank this. -
Fix the antenna system, or (2) buy an external swr bridge to verify the readings, (3) take it to a tech
Another Canadian driver Thanks this. -

I have always heard not to trust them, but found them to be really close, as long as a golden screwdriver had not been there.
Just replaced the finals in a tyt this morning the guy who owns it was swearing it was bad out of the box, but I had almost an hour of replacing those stupid diodes , you can hardly see and cleaning up someones Mars Mods. amazing what can happen during shipping, cause we all know hams would not lie about turning screws.
Last week before the cataract surgery I would not even been able to see the diodes, dam they got small.Another Canadian driver and delta5 Thank this. -
I could do the mars/cap mod on my ft857d, but I don't take part in mars or cap. I have seen some of these out of band mods mess radios up too.
Another Canadian driver Thanks this.
