Hey fellas , I'm new to this site , I've been studying from this site for a bit and I've finally just registered. I have learned a lot from you guys just by searching so a big THANK YOU .
I have a couple of questions and a video you guys can view if I'm doing my Air brake the right way before my Test . From what a lot of people have at my work and here that I'm going to a place where they " like to fail you " I had no choice since there's no earlier appt ..
I have studied and passed the 2 month company course , at home on my personal hours trying to get this right . I've tried to learn alot on not just what the part is but why and how it functions .

The only thing that blows, they really don't teach you the " Dmv" state numbers or how to say it the dmv way . I have been reading the Cdl Ca book for my third time and I now know most of it but I still need some help , maybe some of you fellas can help .. Thanks very much in advance .. I've been a courier (class c) for about 8 years and now I'm trying to advance ..

    1. Need your opinions on my Air brake knowledge so I made a video to see if any of you can point me in the right direction how I'm doing it or saying it (hopefully I'm using the correct "dmv" words . ( ALSO ON THE APPLIED PRESSURE LEAKAGE TEST , is it 1 minute and 20 sec ?Ive heard the 20 sec is to stabilize the air pressure gauge ????

    2. What I've been hearing on this forum and others to try and get the proper wording on the tests .. If anybody knows them or has them I'd really appreciate it . I've heard on this forum you can fail for saying : 1 minute than 60 sec for applied /Calling an air line a Air hose / Calling it a pre-trip instead of Vehicle inspection / Calling an air pressure indicator an air pressure gauge (which I think I did on the video ) and the list goes ..

    3. Spare electrical fuses ? do they ask for them ?

    4. For the S.A.L.E part of the Air brake test when I realese the brakes do I HAVE to put Chocks like the cdl book states or can I just put it in the lowest forward gear like some drivers have been telling me ?
    5. Do I show them all my documentation ? Truck reg trailer, dot and haz papers , emergency job aid book , dot ,hazmat book

    6. Do you check you 4 way hazards , turn signals , reverse , brake lights all separately and if I do can he or my manager guide me so the process can be much faster

7 . The rear slack adjusters on the tractor .. Do you have to say no less than a 90 degree angle ?

    8. Is Dmv still going by CDL :Cracked damaged leaks / ABC: Abrasion bumps cuts / nothing damaged broken or missing ? Is that what they want to hear ?

Friends and coworkers think I'm overthinking it but I really want to try and pass especially hearing how strict this place is and even on here saying they were being investigated for " purposely " failing drivers / students .

Again , really much appreciated , ANYTHING HELPS . God bless America and everyone here .

( I might have more questions this weekend, going to keep studying)

To be honest I don't think I would pass that part if I took it again lol. Passed mine in Modesto I want to say.

But just say everything that comes to mind and that you see.. and remember " "noo cracks, no leaks, no broken welds good working condition" also keep in mind when you do the road test keep the clearance on your mind as soon as you pass under the bridge he's gonna ask what the clearance was.

I didn't do half of my pre trip inspection when the instructor told me: "alright, enough. You know what you're talking about. Let's go for ride"

I don't remember half of what I said now...

Answer to 3 is no at least in Ohio. Just mention that you would check to make sure you have them. Point towards glove box if truck has one. If not pockets on the back wall etc.

    5) In Ohio didnt have to mention any paperwork, much less show them.

I think it must be the people you test with, I took my test in Washington in 2013. They didn't care about terminology differences like 60 sec v 1 minute. The problem here is I'm watching your video and you're doing stuff way different then I had to do, I won't tell you how I did it until after you test because I don't want to mess you up, I recommend doing it however your CDL school told you to.

My test was in Missouri, the show me state, and in 2005 I said, I am going to check each idem for excessive wear, breaks, cracks, leaks or any other signs of damage or missing parts. I said that once and then touched every area that I could. The brake test was easy as I used a check list. I told him that as a pilot, I always used a check list even thought I remember how to.

I past on the first try with the highest scores in my class. I drove another two days before I became the first in my class to hit a bridge.
