WOW! 5 weeks without a check and was still working for them and bought fuel on top of that. When the first check bounced I would have been headed toward the house and when the second check didn't clear I would have turned my truck in.
They did an interview on the news this week of an Arrow driver and his wife and they said they had no money, no home and no car. They had been living in their truck. Okay you can blame Arrow for a lot of things but where did the money go and what bills do you have when you live in your truck and have nothing else like rent, mortgage, auto's, etc.... they had to have made some money this year. I have known several over the years who truck and live in the truck and have no home or household bills but also have a healthy bank account. I just didn't get it.
I hope this is a wake up call to a lot of drivers always have an emergency fund so you can eat, motel, bus ticket, plane ticket or rent a car (a U-Haul is cheaper) to get home because companies will kick you to the curb for any reason and anywhere. The way the economy is we will see more of this. -
Small earthquake reported on December 22nd near Tulsa, OK. Jim Pielsticker was rollin his grave.
Eskimo6804 Thanks this. -
As far as the assist they will just sneek in and take them once they know where they are. -
I've seen even more underhanded tactics than this by a little (now defunct) outfit out of Calhoun,TN.
They knew a year in advance of a coming bankruptcy - and to avoid paying unemployment forced all their drivers to sign a contract with a third party "driver leasing company" (driver - not truck).
In other words, they withheld all paychecks until the drivers signed over their services to this glorified "temp agency" ... thereby reliving themselves of any responsibility to them.
So now these drivers were "employed" by a third party when the company folded - negating any compensation due.
And to top it off - this temp agency was more than willing to "place" these drivers with the likes of USX, or Covenant - while shaving their "placement" fee off the top - what a crock!

Good news. The employees in OK will be able to get unemployment. -
The Bible is pretty clear about the consequences of dishonesty:
Malachi 3:5
5 At that time I will put you on trial. I will be a ready witness against all sorcerers and adulterers and liars. I will speak against those who cheat employees of their wages, who oppress widows and orphans, or who deprive the foreigners living among you of justice, for these people do not fear me," says the LORD Almighty. -
