Yes, through the years I have heard this also. But back in the 70`s - 80`s, most of the companies were compatible, with pay. For newdrivers to think there company is a better one than another, because the other company has to Drive/Unload, and they dont have to, Your wrong. Example- Sysco Foods, Drive/Unload/Inside Delivery-as too, just drive local, and let the company unload, and you stand there and watch. Stand there and watch= $12hr. Drive/Unload/Inside Del.=$24hr. If I were a young kid, starting to drive, Im going to want the $24hr job. Ill work hard and make a good living at it. It seems to me, the younger gen. Does not want to work hard. When I was there age, I worked my butt off. I had 2 jobs, at the age of 10 - 13 , I had a paper route, Yep, a bicycle with the bag on the handle bars, riding around delivering newspapers, and the same time worked at the major hotels as a bussboy. As a bussboy, I worked weekends 10-12 hrs a day. My dad worked driving a truck for 35 years, and never missed work, Went to work everyday. I think it is how we are brought up. My dad is gone now, but I thank him everyday for teaching me the values in life. He was a Great example for me. If some think there company is better than anothers, wrong, Its what you put into the company, that makes them a better one.

Its not a generational thing. Its a personal thing. How you are brought up does have an affect but its still personel choice.

I spent the 80's, 90's and most of the 00's working with teenage/ college swimmers. Some had a good work ethic some didn't. It had very little to do with their parents work ethic. These kids trained with me 26 hours a week plus competitions. Thats 2 hours before school, 2.5 after school. They swam an average of 65-90,000 yards per week. You cannot be lazy and do that. Many kids quit. The ones who didn't wound up becoming Valedictorians, Drs, lawyers, teachers , you name it.

To say the "younger generation" doesn't have the same work ethic as those who grew up in the 50's 60's and 70's is a generalization. Its the same thing your elders said about you and your paper route because they didn't have it so good. They had to get up and pick cotton before school. Same old same old. Some will make it some will not. The choices they make and the attitude they present will make all the difference.

I think it's a fair generalization....Kids today are not in a place where they HAVE to work as much as those before them, it's just a fact of a more modern world...

The same could be said of them by those who grew up in the 40's 50's and 60's.

That's right...All previous generations had to work harder than the next...You're proving the 'generalization'....

A few weeks ago,my brother was sayin exactly the SAME thing, this particular brother of mine,is a flat roofing foreman, and he was goin on and on....Well,I had to remind him,(as we both started)for this company in 1993,that what he was ######## to me about, was EXACTLY those same words of the workers there when we started who were 10-20 years older....:biggrin_2554::biggrin_25511:

Im not agreeing with this, because when we were younger, I can not remember anyone just laying around doing nothing. We did not have any technology like there is today, but everyone was always outside doing something. My son -in -law works for a Power Plan, Yes, Power Plant, in management, and he is only 35 years old, and He says They can not find any of the younger Generation to work for them. When they hire one, He misses work, calls in sick, No show. He says they keep the older ones, because there here everyday. They do want the younger ones, but cant keep them.
How`s this, $90,000 starting pay. Here is another one, our grand daughters husband, has a chance to start working there, our son-in-law Will get him in. He will not do it, do to the fact that he will have to work sometimes 7 days a week. He just lost his job, now they live with his mom and dad, Oh, Yes they do have a baby. He does not want to work that much. Maybe in your eyes you see a different picture, but not me. I do not consider every kid out there lazy, but I see a majority of the ones we know, are.

I am a bit younger than you but not much. I remember many people in the 60's and 70's who did little more than smoke pot all day every day. There were bums in the 40's and 50's too. They were called hobos. It still boils down to personal choices made by individuals. There are plenty of hard working young folks out there.
