If it's a load through a broker they can scramble and find someone to cover it but you're going to be on the hook for the charges. I don't cut any slack on loads like that. Brokers want me to do a power only pulling someone elses trailer finishing a load it's $3 a mile the entire trip from when i leave the house bobtail until i get back home - or they can take a hike. Teaches cheap trucks a valuable lesson lol.

Maybe I'm reading this wrong, but if a tragedy were to happen like the sudden death of a drivers loved one and they needed somebody to finish the load, how does that make them a cheap truck that need to be taught a lesson?

i would guess the lesson would be to not to take freight cheap enough to not be able to cover the unexpected.

Here's a similar situation. My truck breaks down, transmission failed. 180 miles to get to receiver on a 1500 mile load. Needed to find a repower. I found someone and it cost me 2,000 for him to come get my trailer and deliver it then bring my trailer back. I paid him with $100 bills. And I'd pay it again if I had to. Much less costly than having a reefer claim because of a catastrophic breakdown.
