If it's a load through a broker they can scramble and find someone to cover it but you're going to be on the hook for the charges. I don't cut any slack on loads like that. Brokers want me to do a power only pulling someone elses trailer finishing a load it's $3 a mile the entire trip from when i leave the house bobtail until i get back home - or they can take a hike. Teaches cheap trucks a valuable lesson lol.
My company just got our authority and I want to put it to use.

Here's a similar situation. My truck breaks down, transmission failed. 180 miles to get to receiver on a 1500 mile load. Needed to find a repower. I found someone and it cost me 2,000 for him to come get my trailer and deliver it then bring my trailer back. I paid him with $100 bills. And I'd pay it again if I had to. Much less costly than having a reefer claim because of a catastrophic breakdown.
