Love driving at night... all night long... except during the winter, under bad weather conditions such as icy roads and snow storms...
But other than that, I prefer to drive at night... there is less traffic at night, less accidents, closed weigh stations... less delay on the road...
I agree these bureaucrats are totally detached from the people... and I think they couldn't care less... as long as they keep their position and power... and they have people to write their response letters... they may have a few samples of letters and just fill in names and make a few changes...OLDSKOOLERnWV, poppapump1332 and 25(2)+2 Thank this. -
That was a response from a staffer, it wasn't from anyone else. It is just a standard BS response.
When you guys write to these people, put in a personal story about why it is important and stick to a couple points to make your argument. Don't bring up what it will do to the industry or other people BUT yourself - make it personal and use that personal point of view about it, it gets more attention. -
They are a coming ladies and gentlemen, either adapt or hang
up the keys. Keep waiting until the last minute hoping for some last second reprieve, and you will be so far behind the learning curve you will never catch up. Two years ago the came out with the Dec. 2017 mandate, but everyone thought OOIDA or some other organization would pull a rabbit out of there hat once again. It ain't happening folks. And before you start calling me a steering wheel holder, etc. I have been out here 22 years, with no accidents or moving violations. Unlike others, I saw the writing on the wall years ago, and adapted the changing industry.peterd, johnpbrittboy and tucker Thank this. -
What learning curve? Any monkey can run with elogs telling him when to go and when to stop. How hard is that?
I object on the basis of having to pay for one more thing some government official thinks I need to have in order not to be "detrimental to safety" (as congressman DeFazio responded).
I've never had a log violation or an accident in my 9 year driving career.
As long as their are congressman like Babin willing to step up to the plate and offer amendments to delay this mandate, I will support them.
It is my right as an American citizen after all.Broke Down 69, Timin770, BoostedTeg and 1 other person Thank this. -
runningman0661 Thanks this.

$700 to a $1,000 a box plus a monthly subscription fee. I don't pay for any paper logs, I use a logging software program I downloaded. It is not an ELD or an AOBR.
I worked inside compliance for a trucking company. Those units were always going haywire. I was having to box up units on a weekly basis and send them back for repair. 1 year warranty and you're on the hook after that.
We also suspected that having the units plugged into the ECM was causing some issues on the trucks as far as sensors, false readings etc.
Look, if the mandate goes into place and isn't delayed, it is what it is. I ran elogs as a company driver for several years before becoming an owner operator with my own authority.
There's no need to beat a dead horse on the principle of elogs and the HOS as a whole. The argument is circular and has been profligated here on TTR ad nauseam.
The reason I posted the reply from my congressman was I thought it would provide a good example of civics in general. And for everyone to be reminded once again regarding the prism these bureaucrats see everything through.Broke Down 69, runningman0661, BoostedTeg and 2 others Thank this. -
I agree with the Congressman. ELDs are just a tool. Nothing more, nothing less.
Want change? Write him about changing the hours of service. -

Your Congressman Peter DeFazio is nearly as much a socialist as Bernie Sanders.
