That's great. Love to see them used instead of scrapped. I've got a few of them but only one is used on 440 right now. Last swap I got five for a buck, they are out of band radios for both 2m and 440 but easily fixed.

What software did you use for the conversion?

    Oldironfan Thanks this.

I have the last version of the DOS program for it. There really wasn't any conversion. The 2m freqs programmed right in. The tech that recapped it for me might have tweaked the VCO, not sure. Am told that the vhf-hi vers. (Mine), doesn't need VCO tweaking, but the 450mhz radios might unlock so tweaking might be needed.

I had my programmed a few years back, I didn't need the tune up done it works well. I have to go through the box of Moto radios I have in storage, I am thinking I have more of them sitting in that crate. I also got a couple maratrac radios somewhere - 110 watts on 440.

These radios are awesome performers. They are not frequency agile, as they need to be programmed so they aren't good to travel with. But for banging around on the local repeaters, they can't be beat. I get constant compliments on how this one sounds. I use the black, L shaped desk mic from Motorola with it.

I ran a Motorola MSS for several years. Great radio, but I run Kenwood and Yeasu rigs in my car and truck, a little more versitile. for programing.

I still have and use my Motorola Service Monitor, have 2 msf5000 1 on 440 and one on 2 meters.

I sold a bunch of Spectras great radio, but for ham use I like the easier to program Kenwood or Icoms. When the FCC narrow banded commercial, the Spectra were one of the models that could meet spec. Good for Armature, bad for lots of local governments, Like Glendale and Burbank
