Which company do you think would be best for him?
He has no experience in trucking, he's been laid off from IT industry.
I myself was thinking of going into Central Ref because it was the only company that accepted 21 yr olds, provided schooling, and had a good reputation, and accepted me (CRE and CRST accepted me too, but they have bad rep, Watkins Shepard didn't accept me).
Anyway I thought perhaps since my dad is older than 21 yr old, perhaps some other company that has better pay than Central Ref would be better fit? I remember this one company somebody recommended me was called Stevens I think and it was but only hired someone at least 24 year old or something?
My dad could become a trucker

he needs to make sure he really wants to do this, then just go to school. heck if both of you get your license at the same time, after training, you two can team up and make more money than solo drivers could. just a thought.
but he needs to analyze whether or not a driving job is for him.
then part way through schooling, you can come back here and ask which companies to go to. right now, what could be good today can be crap later on. too early to tell him now. -
I don't think we have enough money to go to school so I was thinking of a company that provides schooling.

since he lost his job, your state may have 're-training funds" for him. but if not, then i think you mentioned stevens....?? i am not entirely familiar with thier training program, so maybe someone else can help you soon. -
Make sure he's not late for the bus!

Stevens itself isn't a bad company to work for My dad started his driving career with them and drove for them for 3 years and doesn't have anything bad to say about them, BUT if you read this forum you'll see that you DO NOT want to have them pay for your school, If your guys are broke now, just wait till there BS financing is done with you lol You'll be paying them every friday instead of them paying you!
If you guys are east of the mississippi Look into Millis Transfer! you only need $500 upfront for the school and they'll finance the rest....

My brother is an IT guy and has been for years.
I took him on a West coast run one time and he vowed to NEVER get in a truck again!
Someone who is used to office work is going to have a heck of a time trying to be a driver.
It seems like the forum is full of people everyday that were laid off and think trucking is where to turn to.
It is a whole different lifestyle not just a job to fall back on when times are tough.
Best advice is to find another job where he is home every day...
Not trying to be rude but some people think trucking is an easy job...Ranger_309 Thanks this. -
