When I renewed my CDL A license, I cut too close to the expiration with not enough time to get my TSA fingerprint background check back...
So, the DMV extended the expiration date of my license by 90 days.. I was sent a letter from the DMV stating that the expiration date was extended til xx/xx/xxxx waiting TSA results...
if I were you.. I would get my ducks in a row before calling and applying for jobs.. start by either calling the DMV or going in person and get answers on what needs to happen so you have a valid CDL A with the endorsements you need or want..
Now.. I am glad I went through any inconvenience and whater costs involved to get my Hazmat endorsement as I just got a great job with excellent pay and benefits which required a HazMat endorsement...
I went tnrougn a staffing ageny and was the only driver out of 8 that had the HazMat endorsement when this job became open... the otner drivers stated they would get the endorsement if needed... but the company wa ted someone immediately and not wait fkr a driver waiting on tne TSA background check...
so... get your ducks in a row.. call the DMV and find out exactly what you need to do
My driver license is withheld by DMV....

OK. I called DMV(916-657-5771) again. And verify the status of my cdl again. Still same answer.
It's witheld due to unfinished background check from TSA regarding my hazmat. And I told DMV person what you guys told me.
But she said DMV can't proceed my cdl until either I drop off the hazmat endorsment or TSA give the clearance to DMV.
And I don't want to drop off that endorsment.... Guess I have to wait or find other company. Since Con-Way recruiter told me they are fine with my cdl status, maybe I still have a chance. -
Well if it is withheld, then you have no operator's permit to even drive a car.
Drop the hazmat endorsement and get on with a job. I don't see how they can even approve (put on the license) the hazmat endorsement without completing the application which is two parts - passing the test and getting the background check. Maybe the background check needs to be dropped, no one may be stupid enough to be a terrorist and have to prove that they can haul hazmat material, they would just take it. -
How long have you been waiting? I just went through the hazmat process about a month ago preparing to go to landstar and I received my new license in the mail with H endorsement exactly 7 days after I got fingerprinted but I still had an active license during that process. I actually received the TSA notification that I passed a week after I got my new license.
That said my prints are already on file and I have an exceedingly uncommon name so background checks are always quick for me. If you're John smith it may take longer. -

But read carefully any expiration date on that temp license. Most chances are it might not expire, but check that out. So if the TSA does not come in, you may have to go back to the DMV for another.
I know I have been issued a temp license when I renewed mine, I just cannot remember any expiration date. -
