I am a Fleet Driver. I am on a 60'40 spit with my owner of my van. I get 100% of all fuel and bonus money. He takes care of the upkeep of it.
Freight has been slow so I have ave. around 1,000-1,500 miles a week some times it has been lower or hardly any miles at all. You just have to know the area you are in to get loads. Chicago, Indianapolis, Gary, Louisville are a few good areas that I can think of right now.
The best thing is it is not forced dispatch so I can pick and choose where I want to go,but I am on call 24/7/365 to go pick up a load asap to deliver it asap

How hard was it finding a owner to hire you
And just curious
But I assume your dislike for forced dispatch is because no pay for dead head
What is the average
Your experience is very helpful thanks
I have a friend who used to hall for Taylor our of Milwaukee
He said they haul quite a few bodies for out of state funerals
Is that true or BS -
I haven't hauled any dead bodies but yes I have heard from divers that it is true also I have heard about live organs too.
I only get paid for deadhead if it is over 100 miles, but usually I don't have to deadhead far -
That would be a bit too creepy for me hauling bodies.
It will be interesting to read more about expediting. It's a branch of the industry I am not familiar with, and I like to learn about new things. Keep posting and letting us know how this works. Someday I will have an empty nest and need something to do! -
We have different boards for different areas. They can either pay us to go move in that area we can stay where we are at or they can tell up a place to move without pay they just try to get us some where to get a load. each board has different daily ave and it tells how mant trucks are sitting there. Boards are broken up by different areas in that state

Expediting has potential but this is the slowest part of the year traditionally and this year is worse than other years . A rate war has started with vans . FedEx Custom Critical cut the rate to 80 cents per mile and Panther is trying to pass 70 cent per mile loads off even though the contracts state a 75 cents per mile minimum .
Greg Sevcik Thanks this. -
I have had some that were lower but not many they say the reason why is to keep us moving so we are not sitting. They want to see us move and make money
-
But considering that it cost a third in cost to run a van
And that many leased on OO are making driving semi $1.20 with little or no FSC
I think $.80 not being all that bad in comparison
But that means nothing unless there are the miles to run -
WOW!
Iam learning alot in this forum today.
IRUNU, glad to hear about your experiences and about this profession.
I look forward to reading more. -
Pretty much the same thing I do execpt I get 25% of the load revenue.
I'm on call also 24/7/365 and get to choose the loads I take. Everything is mainly oilfield with odd stuff every now and then.
We will usually take a run and then dead head back to our home terminal unless we can get something in the area or on the way back.
I pull regular flatbed, drop deck, and a stretch trailer.
