the dolly is easy i backed it 40' from where i got it straight under the trailer, now lineing up the lead trailer TO the dolly was a beach!
American Trucker -
most times as long as the dolly fifth wheel is lined up with the rear box kingpin and you dont wheel the dolly too far to hook to the lead, its a guaranteed hook. There will be nights when you cant hook to save your life..hahah
ACH1130 Thanks this. -
And yes hooking a set isn't hard but frustrating. I haven't done it in a while. The dolly being connected to the first trailer was the biggest pain. My trainer would hook the 1st trailer then the dolly, then back it like that to the kite -
sector 1 mike from cv is really cool. I used to hate nj, but after they found out i was ex military they started treating me decent. I have a female fos out here and she can be annoying sometimes. Can you just leave me alone so i can load the freight please. If Im not running over ####, just let me be!

When dropping the dolly onto the pintle hook of the lead, be very careful not to put your hand in front of the eye of that dolly!!
Also, drop the dolly onto that pintle hook and hook the chains before you back the dolly under the trailer. -
most of our dollies have handles on both sides.
another tip, never try to turn a stationary dolly. get it rolling straight then turn it.3 steps Thanks this. -
I'm kind of wondering what situation calls for backing a dolly 40 feet.
If you can back a little utility trailer, you can back a dolly. -
Another thing I always do is right after coupling the dolly to the tail, I set the tractor brakes but leave the trailer brakes released. Then I hook all of the air lines and then open the valves on the lead so I can listen for air leaks right there, and adjust the drain valve on the dolly if needed without having to get back in the truck,
rodknocker, WideSkyND, CenutryClass and 2 others Thank this.
