My Experience as a Line Haul Driver

I had also forgot to post that on Wensday i got to pull my first Hazmat load, had 2,300lbs of a Flamible Solid was no biggie...until we got to the meet. When more then 1 truck are going to the same meet point you get your backhaul in the order you arive (its how the drivers have it worked out so its fair for everyone) and when the 1st truck showed up from Baltimore he was suposed to swap with us since we were first up there, BUT he said in a very thick jamacian accent "i dont hava hazamat" (apparently a new guy thats dragging butt on getting his hazmat) so he had to take another trailer and someone else got to play with our load back in baltimore.


Friday:

Friday started out to what i thought was going to be a bad start like Thursday, first the truck i was going to use again was put OOS because it had overheated. But then i got another truck to use, the driver was still unloading his trailer so he let me barrow his fuel card (they forgot to setup a card for me again) so i fueled, then went inside to get my paper work, and then......I got the load that i took this job to do in the first place, to South Hill, VA (413 mile round trip) . I rolled out of the terminal at 7:06pm (we cant log in until our 7pm start time) got up to the meet point at 10:36pm (there are now 3 construction zones going north on 85 now )

got my swap at 11:45pm, a nice 18,000lbs relay (which means once i get to charlotte its going to be hooked by another driver and takin on down to Atlanta (which is good for us that means we dont have to unload and work all that freight) the driver that got mine wasnt too happy though lol I gave him 14,000lbs with 150 Peices he was going to have to unload and work before he could go home back in baltimore and i was headed south by midnight


Got back to the terminal around 3:45am, dropped my trailer, post triped, parked the tractor back under the local guys trailer where he wanted it, and worked the dock until 6am, then we went home for the weekend!



So far i gotta say i like this, line haul is as good as i've always thought it would be. I cant wait to start getting paychecks to see if the money is as good as it was said to be.

I love it so far, doesnt get any easyer then hooking to a trailer driving a few hundred miles, doing a drop n hook then going back where you came from and going home lol

They are required to have it before being hired, management has gotten a "few" complaints about these guys without it this week.
