I don't blame you for not accepting the extra board position. I know they have to start at the bottom but not knowing when you will work does not pay the bills. I know I couldn't do it.

Fortunately, there are other good paying union jobs that do not haul freight. Just google Teamster locals in your area and see what openings they have. I have pulled tankers for the majority of my career and I love it. It might not be for you but I wanted you to know that there are other options out there besides just freight.

    Good luck.

Last night i got my gravy run again, and i got a payroll print out so i can see my check break down.

    Pay:

Charlotte, NC to South Hill, VA $70 each way, so $140 for the round trip, 6.5hrs drive time = $21.53/hr

Charlotte, NC to Burlington, NC $40 each way, so $80 for the round trip (often times you'll do two runs in one night so $160) in 3.5hrs = $22.85/hr

Charlotte, NC to Atlanta, GA $80 each way + $5 for a set each way (99% of the time a set) so $170 for the round trip, in 9hrs = $18.88/hr

Then $16.50/hr for dock work, on top of that.

tanker is my goal, i was shooting for fuel hauling and landed this first, so i'll sit back and get me some doubles exp, while i do as much research as i can on local tank work around here and start at the top and work my way down.

    i'll PM you now

oh so yesterday, while we were hanging out waiting for our paper work a swifty comes in looking for a job....they tell him "suck it up, stay with swift for a while then give us a call back you dont have enough exp" he's been a big bad "trucker" for 4 whole months!:biggrin_25523:

So while he was waiting to talk to the terminal manager (who was out on the docks) he was wineing about haveing to stay out 2 whole weeks at a time! Now i know your thinking whats the big deal, well it was funny because all 7 of us waiting for our paper work started busting out laughing at the same time. Apparently he thinks 2 weeks is longer they most OTR guys stay out. I will give him credit though he is a company driver not a dumbarse lease op, and when i asked he said "ohhh helllllll nah man i aint that stupid!"
