I guess the next question is going to be, "what does one need to do to become an expert on the subject?" I know union guys seem more knowledgeable on the subject. I think it might have a lot to do with the plenty reading time they get waiting for the telephone to ring.

Come on guys. A/T started this thread so he could post up his experiences as a line haul driver, not to debate on whether unions are good or bad. So lets leave the debate for a different thread and not clutter up this one with it.

Good luck on your first day!American-Trucker Thanks this. -
first day went great, Got there at 5:30pm met up with my trainer. Very good guy, been with the company 15 years. Anyway we started out by building a set for another driver since our load was on a 53' but they wanted me to be trained how to do it.
It was allot easyer then i thought it would be, only takes a few min to put together.
Then we found our trailer and left the terminal at 7pm and headed north to va. he drove 206 miles in 3 hrs 15 min to our meet point. There was a total of 6 of us that went there from charlotte. We waited a little bit for the relays to get there from Baltimore, we were the 2nd truck to get there so we got the 2nd relay.
I did the swtich and drove the 206 miles back, took 3 hrs 30 min because i ran into rain so bad you couldnt see and we also made a 5 min pit stop at a pilot for a snack.
Got back to the terminal at 4am. Dropped our trailer, then to get more practice i built the set for the guy that uses my trainers truck during the day and i no sooner parked the truck with the set and the other guy showed up. So he got like a 1 hour head start on his day. His run is a 616 mile round trip.
Anyway then we did some paperwork then left at 6am.
Going back at 5:45pm tonight to do it all over again.

My bad, thought you were going with con dash way. Didnt even know central used pups..All ive seen in the tristate were 53 footers..Yea i love hooking sets. Getting that dolly to the back box is fun eh? I love linehaul. Just wish I didnt drive so much..
American-Trucker Thanks this. -
Sounds like a good first night, I bet it feels awesome being able to sleep in your own bed after being an OTR driver. That's a nice run you got. My old linehaul run was 2 hours dock outbound, drive 40 miles to hub, work dock for 8 hours then go back.
American-Trucker and CenutryClass Thank this.
