I started right out of driving school mostly because they had just raised their driver pay. Big mistake.
I get to the hotel and the recruiter calls me and tells me orientation started the day before if I could go home and come back next week. I said no I just got to the hotel, she puts me on hold says she talked to her boss and they were going to let me start, and that I was lucky....
Orientation wasn't bad. Right after that they got me a trainer.Im a guy, and they put me with an African american female trainer which I didn't mind, but I wish I never got in her truck... she made me sit in the passenger seat which had a leak from the a/c my feet were soaked everytime I sat there. She would drive for 8 hours then make me drive for 8-10. By the end of the 1st week I was getting really tired from sitting in the passenger seat and driving. She would not let me lay down while she was driving I had to sit there and when it was my turn to drive she was in the back laying down.... everytime I would ask can I go lay down she would say no you're about to start driving in a minute which was 4 hours later... I kept falling asleep in the passenger seat for 5 to 10 mins at a time when she got on her phone, when she wasn't on her phone music was playing on max volume. In the middle of the 2nd week she decided to take home time. She told me she would be back in 2 days. Swift put me in a hotel in Gary Indiana. 3 days went by I called he no answer. 5 days went by I called swift, they told me she wasn't responding to her qualcomm or phone and told me to get to the terminal. I went to the terminal they said your going to Atlanta to get a different trainer, I get to the bus stop I get a call from her saying don't leave I'll be there in 2 days. At that time I was already at the bus station pissed off cold, and tired I just hung up... I get on the greyhound, it drives for 2 hours and it has an ac problem so they take us to the station and tells us to get off and wait for another one. 4 hrs later we get another bus. It took 24 hrs to get from gary Indiana to atlanta. I get to Atlanta swift says I have to wait 4 hours for the shuttle. When I finally get to the terminal they put me with another mentor and this guy was a really nice guy but a horrible trainer. A 8 year veteran he told me. He never let me back not once he kept telling me there's no secret to it you'll get it when you're on your own... he drove on my clock a few times when I was asleep one time he even had a critical event which I took the blame for because it recorded a roll over but at the time I said #### it I'm not going to take a chance on a 3rd trainer I had a week to go and it had been over a month already. I was told by swift the rollover would stay on my record with them for 6 months which wasn't a big deal if it didn't happen again (it's not an actual roll over just a stability thing).

Right now I just got a load I'll post the rest later.

Swift is less than perfect, but I see quite a few things that YOU should not have let happen.

The guy is trying to make it work out. The only thing that doesn't make sense is how he let the trainer put a critical event on him like that. That's pretty dumb and he should have told them immediately.

Unfortunately a lot of guys are and as a new person with their very first company the trainees don't know what to ecspect, they learn as they go.some have more then one company while in training and learn from the first bad exp.it takes time but they do become stronger.

I would explain now, before any more time passes, that the critical event wasn't your's. Explain why you took the blame for it, you didn't want to switch trucks, etc.

Sounds like your first trainer was terrible. Sounds like she quit as well. Not sure what to say about the rest of your experience but from this point forward you have to either make the best of what you have learned, keep your record clean and on-time and make some money. Protect your CDL and your record.

I know I shouldn't have let it happen believe me... but the swift employee that put me with her was her friend and before I started I heard them talking how her previous student was no longer there, how she had taken care of him. All I kept telling my self is 1 month. As far as the rollover, I had to speak to this guy's DL which was being bribe by this guy. I know because he told me bragged about it actually. Put 100 in an envelope and mailed it to his house. And kept telling me when you graduate I'll get him to be your DM too all you have to do is start with 100 a month and he'll take good care of you, warn you of randoms....so yeah I kept my mouth closed specially after reading all the stories about company ####ing a driver over.
Sorry guys but the story isn't over. I'm past that nightmare.
I had 1 week left from that critical event graduate. I finally got taken to the Atlanta terminal, and filled out the paperwork and passed the road test which was BS the guy said I have to take lunch so you all pass.... got assigned a truck and had a presentation about how everything is our fault and macros. Then the lady that assigned my truck came in and said you can't graduate you're 8 hours short..go to the hotel and we'll put you on a truck with another trainer for 8 hours..The next day I sat at the terminal for 7 hours waiting on a trainer, and I finally got one I drove the 8 hours to a different terminal and graduated.
Now my training was horrible, I had to figure out most things on my own and luckily accident free. I've never hit anything, I actually get out and look before backing and most time am able to do it with 1 or less pull ups. The critical event is off my record... I have close to 100000 miles.

I know swift is not all that bad, just has a lot of bad people working for them and some people get lucky unfortunately I was not one of them. I got bad trainers except for the 3rd guy he was awesome. I got a bad DL. Bad planners, but i take what they give me be it 50 miles or 500. I have a lot of patience and I can wait a year to get my exp and go elsewhere I don't want my resume to look horrible from jumping to a different company so early.
