I'll answer as best I can. But i don't wanna start a whole new thread on it. The pay, if you're single with no kids & not a big spender, will suffice.
For company drivers, I think the starting pay is now .34 or .35 a mile. If you become a lease operator, your pay ranges from .95 per mile on up...depending on the length of the run. Then there's your DM or driver manager...if this person is no good, you're doomed. Detention pay is non existent. If your truck breaks down, pray you're not near your terminal. If you are, there's no pay for it. Their are some good people, but they're quitting in droves and the new office personnel are wet behind the ears and don't treat the drivers like people, but as just a truck number.

Pay is .36 cents a mile at swift after mentor training. Average miles really depends on what terminal your based out of and who your DM is and if they suck.
reefer out of cali averages 2500 miles good weeks 3k. If your miles are #### for an entire month change your home terminal, home terminal does not have to be near your physical home.
Do your school or refresher do your mentor hours get your own truck and truck on. Get your year experience then start throwing out applications and once you find a good fit move on. If you dont find a good fit stay 2 years because it honestly looks ALOT better on your work history and if you want to land a GOOD gig you might just need it. Walmart is a good driving gig and you most certainly need the stable experience.
Do not go for the lease, lease is bad lease is bad. Repeat outloud lease is bad. Everywhere the lease is bad! Do not do it!
Also do not be a load snob, if you turn down alot of loads you are screwing up the DM's plans you just turned down a 200mile load? Well there goes that 900 mile load that was at your destination. Dont be a load snob. -
Any one know what the driving or practicing range looks like for swift in texas?
