We do this alot between our main terminal and our DC's. The miles are more like 500-600 for each driver though a good days run, meet driver swap trailers take 10 and then 500-600 miles back to the DC.

I drove relay at the Springfield, Illinios yard to Chicago area and back everyday.

I would show up at the time it was supposed to be there. It was usually late by several hours. But I had to drive 30 miles to the spot and wait. There were days, I would take a 16 hour day to do the relay. I was barely home for 7 hours each night.

Today was a good day! I just decided to call it a day a little early so I could get back to driving during the day and sleeping at nite.(like a normal person)
    342 miles driven
    6 hrs on duty
    $112.28 earned
    or $18.71/hr
I am scheduled to drop/hook anytime on the 19th so I figured I may as well take a short day so I can get back to driving during the day, which is just safer for me.
Once again, it was a good money day as I had nothing to do but drive. I know we need customers to have a job, but dealing with them is one of the biggest reasons we dont make money!
Allegedly, I will have a load waiting on me in our Dallas yard. WOO HOO! Another drop/hook and then I deliver to Vineland, NJ (Boo! Hiss!) on the 22nd, 1821 miles! It's a load of produce going to Mission Produce. If I remembering the right customer, I've been there before and it will be a 4-5 unloading time! Oh well, I'll worry about that when I get there! (If I get the load!)

LOL sometimes I thought I was. One time I was sent to a place, I started seeing signs that I needed my twic card etc etc, I started swearing up a blue streak. I was so close to the ships that I could have hit it with my qualcomm. Lucky for everybody it was a cross-dock.

    448 miles driven
    8 hrs on duty
    $152.32 earned
    or $19.04/hr
Once again, a good day, but a short one. Dropped the load at the cust., no mt trl to take away, so I BT to our Dallas terminal to wait for my next load.
The load I just delivered was 163 mt miles and 1194 loaded miles. If I were allowed to to be creative, I easily could have turned that load in 2 days! But playing by the rules forced me to do it in 3 days. The load paid me $461.38, or $153/day legally, being creative, $231/day. How is logging legal NOT like taking a pay cut??? not to mention, that I would have been available an entire 24 hrs earlier to p/u my next load!
On a sidenote, I got up this am with no A/C! This is goona suck! Either run without it or lose up to 2 days to get it fixed!
My current load is a relay I picked up in our yard going to Vineland, NJ. It's 1450 miles, due Tues a.m.. They company is already telling me I have to relay it as I wont be able to legally deliver on time. Just great, before they wouldnt care and I would have been there on time! oh well!

1450 paid miles/60 mph = 24.16 hrs driving. means I need 2 rest breaks. total legal run time is 44 hrs and I only have 42 hours to get there. That's what the company says anyway. I do them dont worry about, I would be there on time, they said no, I have to relay! Whatever!

I was shown a mistake in my math. If I had a regular job I would have worked 17.5 hr OVERTIME! my calculations did not take that into account. Here are the revised numbers for last week:

    1920 actual miles driven
40 hrs straight time, 17.5 hrs OT
    $652.80 earned, before taxes or
    $9.84/hr
Now, I am really disgusted with myself and this crappy job! If you really want to cry, take the gross income divided by 168 away from home, and now I make $3.88/hr! Someone get me a pistol and 1 bullet please!

god, im sick of people complainining and basically saying they should be paid while they sleep. I worked a 12 hour shift at a regular factory job once. It was tiring as heck, in good weather i had a 30 minute drive each way, and always got there 15 early and usually left 15 mins late if i was in a good mood. So thats a 13.5 hour day...in good weather. More like 14 hours during winter storms. I was home 10 hours a day. When i got home, guess what i realllly felt like doing? Sleeping.

The only good thing was i got 3 days a week off. It was supposed to be 4 days off every other week, but I usually did what i could do to get 48 hours every week.

Whats the difference? Everyone hated their job and i could always talk people into giving me one of their days. A couple of goofballs expected me to trade my days for theirs, but HELL NO. MY HOURS!

The one limit to overtime was that the company did everything they could do to avoid paying double time. Oh well.

Am I complaining? maybe, but I never suggested that I be paid while sleeping. I was only doing the math to prove my belief that TRUCKERS CANNOT MAKE VERY MUCH MONEY RUNNING 100% LEGAL! We are gossly under-paid for the sinle most important job is the world. WITHOUT TRUCK DRIVERS, NOTHING MOVES! Its time for people, including some truck drivers, to learn that fact!!! Drivers, you are worth more!
