i have a heater that doesn't work. yeah, it's not nearly as crappy as your situation since it's still plenty hot in the southern united states. if i still have this truck after i take some time off next month for a buddy's wedding. i won't be getting any rest since i'll be shaking all night long. that'll give me even more incentive to make nearly all of my runs 100% throughout the night time. then sleep during the day when it's somewhat warmer. i mostly drive throughout the night time anyway.

I'm sick of people complaining like you. Oh boo hoo, I lived 30 minutes away from my job boo hoo boo hoo. Move closer.

The point is, even if we are snoozing in the the truck, we are, still on duty. Don't believe me, tell me what would happen if someone slammed into your truck and you just brushed it off until you started your clock to get paid. If someone rams into your job while you aren't at work, do you get called in? And do you get paid for that time?

Oh yeah, you work for a company and are on call? You get paid for those hours. Tow truck company in California didn't do that, they ended up shelling out MILLIONS in back wages. One guy worked for them for like 20 years and got such a big check he retired.

It's called the "Give a S--T" factor, you pay me to give one, or I don't.

Gearjammin' Penguin and Gashauler - you two are my trucking hero's.

Could anyone imagine a job where you drive 320-520 miles per night, get paid for ALL work performed, run 100% legal, and make 80-100K per year? Yes!! It's called LTL line-haul. This is why you might catch some static as an OTR driver in a Con-way Freight or FedEx Freight drivers room running for 30K per year.

Could anyone imagine a job where you make 60-90K per year all on an hourly rate running 100% legal? Yes!! It's called LTL P&D or local fuel hauling. You get 1.5 times your hourly rate after 40 hours at most of these companies. Mine, Con-way, is odd - it depends where you work out of. In the East where I'm at, it's OT after 8.

Gearjammin' Penguin, "Don't be exploited, run LTL" could not be a truer statement.

Gashauler, you are my favorite poster here. Can you go over to my thread http://www.thetruckersreport.com/tr...om-new-drivers/90356-what-are-your-goals.html and shed your insight? Gearjammin' Penguin, could you do the same?

If you think I'm out of line please say so.

Every new driver should tattoo this on their forehead back-wards so the can read it every time they look in the mirror.

Thank you Sad Panda for this post.

Unfortunately, LTL companies do not have 3.5 million job openings.

Neither does T/L. Lets see where this goes. Ya gonna work for free half the time or demand to be payed for work performed? Easy answer to me.. How about you?

Nope. Get payed for all the work you perform for any company. There is no way I'd give any trucking company 5 minutes of my time for free. I see guys taking a re-start on the road with no compensation and I wanna puke.

Con-way has its issues as a driver but they pay me to the minute for all work I perform for them. That's why I still work here. Drop, hook, fuel, traffic, breakdown, dock, and etc - it's all paid at a fair hourly rate.
