Why leave it in God's hands? Call today, call tomorrow and keep calling. Go in person if you can. Treat it as though it is your job and they will begin to do the same. Also don't be that guy that shows up without all the needed if to start a job...nobody likes that guy.

Oh believe me, I am persistent! I keep a "job journal". Every company I appy to or even contact, I write down. At least once a week I follow up that initial contact with 1 phone call or e-mail until I get a definitive "no", then I will still follow up once a month. I think of it as my goal to contact 3 new potential employers a week and follow up with 3 potentials a week at least! The squeaky wheel gets the grease!

I am a wannabe so I may be wrong. In a perfect world if a driver ran for 10 hours every day - seven days a week - all year at (let's say) 38 cpm and averaged 50 miles/hour that would be $69,120. From what I have been reading 2,000 miles/wk is a good week and 52 weeks/year the total miles would be 104,000 miles. At 38 com that would be $39,520. So am I missing something here or is trucking a very low paying career for the time away from home, the hours, and the working conditions? Even with this in mind I am still considering driving due to my work status or lack of it.

I see that that with more years of clean driving experience as a new company driver will start out at about 25 to 29 com and go up to the lower 40 com as a company driver. Some drivers are saying that they make $100,000/year. How can this be if you drive legally?

    Yesterday was a good day!
    577 miles driven
    14 hrs on duty
    $196.18 earned
I actually made good miles for a change! Dropped the trailer in our Dallas yard late last nite and went to bed IN MY OWN TRUCK!
After 15 days,(well I did get 4 days at home) I finally got my truck back! And all my stuff was still there, even my porn collection! ;-) It was so nice to finally not have to smell so bad. See, it's the little things in life that make me happy.
Now that I know exactly what I need to do my job, I am going to clean ALOT of unneeded stuff out of my truck. It is amazing how much you seem to collect thinking you need it but really you dont! Next task to accomplish, find a local job!

It will take me 3 days to earn $287.64! Man, truckers make big $$$, dont we?

No, not much. I've been concentrating on 25 mile radius from the house b/c if I get too far away, the pay gets eaten up by the cost of getting back and forth every day. Companies just arent hiring where I live and if I go closer to Akron or Cleveland or Youngstown, they dont pay local drivers enough to justify the cost and hassle of the commute. But I wont give up! There is someone out there that is looking for an experienced, knowledgeable professional that is worth working for!

Save up if you can and get a used vw tdi or an old mercedes turbo diesel. Those get from 30-60mpg, run forever, and extend your range. Give you a few more options at least.

You answered your own question. Look out your window & tell me if you see a perfect world.

2,000 miles a week is a joke. If you are a O/O and get the rates to justify it, then 2000 miles a week can be profitable. But as a company driver, you'll be starving at the 2000 mile mark. Your not making money as a company driver unless you can turn 3000+ a week.

    :biggrin_2559::biggrin_2559::biggrin_2559:

    Do your perfect world math!!!

    $69,120.00
10 hours a day x 7 days = 70 hours (most driver work more then that in a week)
    70 hours a week x 52 weeks = 3,640 hours
$69,120.00 divided by 3,640 hours = $18.98 per hour in that perfect world.

Now lets go into the real world....

Most drivers work 100 or more hours per week... Do you also want to count the time being away from home? Or the time stuck at shippers? Consignees? Stuck in traffic? How about the time dealing with just normal traffic flow?

:biggrin_25524: You sir have issues!!! :biggrin_2559::biggrin_25522:

Well they are either lying, set up in a union to where they get paid to fart, or are O/O that aren't considering their operating costs.
