Maybe not initialy. But after 6 months you can apply for one of the dedicated fleets that have company solos. I didn't ask for it and didn't want it, but I was offered a company solo in Western Regional.
Of course CRE "prefers teams" ... they are a refigerated company. They transport time sensitive, perishable product as thier core business.

Hey guys I passed my road evaluation today and got my class A CDL in Texas. When I get the hard copy all I got to do is transfer it back to Georgia. Now on to more practice with my shifting. Upshifting almost there but I got a ways to go downshifting. Orientation this weekend, graduation Tuesday and then waiting on a trainer! And yes, you do get paid while waiting on a trainer to come get you!
Alaskan-N-Idaho (AIN) Thanks this. -
Hey guys, I have been researching and looking at different companies for almost a month, I saw the CR England site today and thought I would ask about the training. Does any one have info on the training in Utah? I recently moved to Twin Falls, ID and my choices have come down to Swift's School and 2 year contract with training in Lewiston, ID 8/hr by car or CRE in Salt Lake City 3/hrs away. It sounds like Swift offers more solo options but CRE is closer and cheaper. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

My friend and I were planning on teaming up to start with but he wants to run as a lease team. Coming into this, I wanted to run company because I am new to this business. I don't need to knock myself out this early in the game. At this point he's not going to budge on the lease. Neither of us have previous experience in this business. Is it really a good idea to lease when the ink on our CDL's haven't dried yet. -
Not having experience with brockers could be a problem but, in my opinion being inexperinced and trying to but a $150,000.00 is gonna be a major insurance cost. Think about the cost of insuring a dodge viper or an austin martin DB9 withba 16 y.o. behind the wheel. Not to mention you have to pay for fixing the truck, once you figured out its broke, is your friend a diesel mechanic?
These are the reasons I'm gonna wait and drive company for 2 years first. Seen to many guys lose everything right at the end of the lease because they could not save enough $$ for the maintianence AND the final balloon payment.jasper_truck86 Thanks this. -

if he still wants to lease a truck you can just be his co driver. but no mater what, only 1 settlement goes to the truck and the 1st has to pay the 2nd seat.jasper_truck86 Thanks this. -
School director said today that if you're new to trucking going company is probably the best thing to do. You can always lease later but you may bite off more than you can chew initially. I know everybodys different so even though going company is ok for me others are gonna lease no matter what. What scares me is some people in my class are saying they're gonna lease and only accept loads near home so they can be home on weekends. I just shake my head...
