    AT,

I am really enjoying the thread. So happy for you in your new venture. Glad things are going well and you are learning new skills everyday.

I am headed back to trucking next week. After two years off the road I am going to be a regional driver with Averitt Express out of their Chattanooga, TN terminal. Not a bad company to get back into the industry with. I am happy about it that's for sure.

Keep the videos and experiences coming, and be safe.

You make it sound so complicated. When I was there, I had a paper map of the US...one of those big fold-up type deals. I'd use my motor carrier atlas to find where exactly the town I was headed to was located within the state...then I'd turn to the paper map and find the most direct route from where I was to where I needed to go. I'd cross reference that route with my motor carrier atlas to ensure it was a truck route, no low clearances, no restricted routes, etc...

Then, I'd open up my fuel book to see where the fuel stops were....gotta have fuel to run the truck. As long as there were ample fuel stops along the route, I'd run it....and then I'd highlight it. If there were 2 routes that were fairly close on mileage, I'd run the route I hadn't run yet.

I'd drive each day until I had driven as many miles or as many hours as I felt like driving that day (keeping in mind any delivery deadlines) and find a nice, remote, quiet, out-of-the-way place to stop for the night.

I was only there for 3 or 4 months, but that map got filled in pretty quick.

...and I was averaging less than 4% "unpaid" miles.

You might be loading at USG in Sweetwater.....not a bad place to load as long as its not raining. If your loading there, ask the loader to roll out plastic sheeting before you tarp it. They have rolls of it there, but most of the time there to lazy to give it to you, or even mention that its available.

I'm gonna quote you on this, but don't quote me. :) I do believe that I noticed in one of his videos that he has the randmcnally 710. If so, it has truckstops, weigh stations, and rest areas! (and a lot more!) Correct me if I'm wrong AT! :) Loving the thread so far. Keep up the good and inspiring work!
