Not entirely true. Yes you want to stay with a company for as long as you can but you don't really need an entire year to go somewhere else. A lot more companies than you think only require 3 months of recent otr. Plus its a huge plus if you're already working somewhere when you apply. Some places will count previous truck driving experience even if it wasn't otr. Like say you were a delivery driver or drove a company truck but only in your state. They did for my hubby & with that added to what he had suffered thru with Werner, it counted as more than a year & we didn't even know it. He has been driving trucks for forever now but it wasn't out of the state. He was a delivery driver, a company driver for a fertilizer company at one, drover straight trucks when he worked for utility companies. These training mills are racking up the $$$ on you guys by doing your training thru them. One guy said when all was said & done it was over $5,000. You can start at a company as a yard hand & work your way up until a higher position comes availiable. Many places will allow you to practice with their equipment, a lot will even let you use their equipment to take the test. Thats what my husband did. He just paid out of his own pocket for the tests (written). It costed $65 bucks. And the driving portion didn't cost anything b/c he worked for the fertilizer co. & he used their equipment. He didn't even work for them for more than 4 or 5 months. So a grand total of $65 bucks for the written & 4-5 months of time with another company. As compared to the hoops they make you jump thru when you go thru these bunka$$ training mills??? ~Just sayin'

BTW, most of the time you can use the companies equipment when you're still just a yard hand. I was unclear about that part. My hubby was only still a yard hand when they let him use the equipment. He didn't have to work his way up to a greater position to use it. I figure you're stuck with a lower position but they let you utilize their equipment, take advantage. They many not be giving you an out an out raise paid out in dollars but they are giving you a raise by allowing you the opportunity. Take advantage.

Then don't fly Pattj, you sound like a company apologist or someone with a motive. Stuff happens and so does misfortune, this guy had some bad luck and yfor no reason. ou call him on it for no reason. I bet you would be first in line crying if it happened to you or maybe your steel reinforced concrete skin can take any abuse in any amount. Wow, lay off already.

A man brother, I couldn't of said it better. Since this I been driving for Roehl and having the time of my life. All I can say to people out here or trying to become a trucker is there is light at the end of this dark tunnel for new truckers and don't give up after the first company screws you over.. Thanks and keep it between the lines

Im glad that you found a more reputable company to drive..good luck with your career...I also agree with your statement...there is light at the end of the tunnel, but it certainly it is very frustrating to get screwed around by some of these BFI co's..

I just wanted to say to all the drivers who thought my skin was to thin that I'm now hauling over size for the company I work for. I got into the fleet after six months of driving with them. no thanks to Werner, hows that for my skin being to thin.... thanks for the support from everyone else that didn't try to bash me.

the grass is greener on the other side.
