I wrote two pages about my experience with Werner in detailed. But then i though who cares? I know Werner doesn't So I am just going to post the cliff notes.
About the training.
1. Most Trainers cares about.. Trainers wallet, not you or the training.
2. They will work you, you will get the experience you need, as long you work nearly for free.
3. Hope you don't have a family to support. Cause the 400 dollars a week (for 8-10 weeks.) After taxes, Health insurance, the pay advance that you WILL take out just to eat. your only bringing home about 150 to 200.
"Werner cares.... about Werner"
1. Broken Washer machines/overprice vending machines
2. I wrote a book called "Terminal guards, office drones and the 3rd rate citizen (Driver)"
3. The "Do what we say because "we" don't have to do it, you do" syndrome.
4. Be lucky the mechanic working on your truck speaks broken English.
5. Pray to the Werner God that the mechanic working on your truck, knows it is a truck.
6. Common mechanic phrases: "We dont have that?" "We will get to you when we get to you," (While ############ with his buddies.) "We dont need to put down that your losing all electrical power in your truck, i will just write down engine light came on. and then i can go back to playing on my iphone."
Treating new drivers out of training.
1. Shag loads all the time every time
2. 95% No touch freight only pertain to.... well not you.
3. Your expendable, your only hired for the Government incentives, and hopefully the insurance payout when you wreck. oh lets not forget about the cut rate free labor. don't believe me (Ask how much your getting paid per mile after training, and don't forget about the "Sliding" payscale. Also safety mileage is a joke. Hope you didn't hit anything during training.
5. The truck you just got, the one with 500,000 miles on it. its going to break down on you. multiple times and they are just going to laugh at you.(Im doing it right now.)
How they force drivers to quit.
1. Bad leadership and managing skills.
2. Hide and go fine the trailer. How you go to Customer drop yards, after drop yards to look for the great white whale.... I mean trailer.
3. Dispatch hath given you a load, Dispatch can take it away.
4. Pre trips can be very scary on a trailer. You can take it sure, But ask yourself if that the 300 dollar violation ticket is worth 40 bucks.
5. They want you to quit, they need you to quit. and when you do... your already replaced 3 times over. you know Those trainees that just got done with orientation? They can do it for free. So why pay you? don't believe me http://www.doleta.gov/business/TrainingEducation.cfm
knock yourself out.
How to correctly talk to Dispatch,
1. head down, (even if your on the phone they can sense disrespect.)
2. no sudden raise in voice on the phone, (even if you are startled.)
3. Thank them for their time being wasted talking to you after they tell you, they can't do nothing for you.
Werner was an experience for me. It got to the point Were I was force to quit. last paycheck was -80. could not even cover the insurance. and i quit on a Tuesday. (and we all know that you have to turn in your Trip Envelopes by Tuesday to get paid Friday.. or in my case Saturday.) Its really sad how Most of these companies treat their drivers. I loved the field, going to find another hopefully soon, but my short time with Werner, put a bad taste in my mouth with these big companies. pun attended. my advice be careful, ask questions before you go, during and after. Actually look up the company your going for. or better yet the lifestyle. Don't be a tool for them to use. and good luck. May your experience be better then mine.

wow....does anyone EVER have anything positive to say about werner???
-
Im on my 6th year at Werner, its the only trucking company ive ever worked for so im probably not a great source but i dont have anything bad to say, we all have to start somewhere.. It was tough in the beginning but i always took home 500-600 a week once i was out of the trainer truck ..Im now an owner op, my truck is paid for and i think im treated fairly.. I refuse the occasional load and my dispatcher is respectful as i am of him..This job is not for everyone(most), you have to be self motivated and willing to go through some grief to get anywhere IMO...good luck to you!!

They got Qualcomm, no log books?, Their blue...? Free arcade at the Terminal? And the showers? so clean, I hope you brought shower shoes. What is there not to like?
-
HEHE you sound bitter, youve been a trucker for 7 yrs?? why are you going to a training/starter company anyways??? Must be something more to this.....
-
Why are you still with a starter company? Did this in the Military for the last 7 years, but since I can do this while being shot at, someone in the civilian world asked If i can do the job while not being shot at. And yes there is some incentives doing this while getting my CDL. but companies like yours do not look at military training and experience as prior experience. and there for have to start all over.

Let me guess, you never knew Werner was this bad.Are you one of those ppl that heard how bad Werner is but thought you would find out for yourself?Werner was my first company, back then I never went to any forums.Werner has'nt changed one bit since 2003.Just imagine staying there and having to put up with their crap for 3 yrs like I did.Mainly because I knew it would'nt be any better some place else as a new driver.Does road brkdown leave you on the phone for well over and hr still?
-
I hear ya..... sorry they wont accept the military experience, that doesnt seem right.... Im still here because its easy and i dont like change.. I only want to work 30 weeks a year..With a large company they dont miss me and im not quite ready to get my own authority..
-
Well look on the bright side at least you didn't get the trainer that craps himself.
