Hey everybody quick question, how long does it take for a new person to learn the mechanics of shifting a truck once they are on Phase 1; is 12 days out and still not getting it to high of an expectation or not. Trainee is not being able to remember how to shift or when. He cannot do the qualcomm without being told how to log in and out, etc. Is hubby expecting too much or what do you think.
scottied67 Thanks this. -
By the end of the first week the shifting should be getting better but there will still be a lot of over revving and grinding. The Qualcomm can be challenging for anyone who hasn't really ever used windows. Some students pick it up quickly while others treat it like a rubik's cube.

Thanks for the input Dewey, it is exasperating I know, I can hear him grinding through the gears when hubby calls. Speed going on and off ramps, etc is another concern it seems. On the qualcomm hubby has to tell him what to do and most times and how to get there. Maybe in a few more days??, but I am sure in about another week they will have a lot more miles than the what is it 14,000 miles that are allocated.
It seems like most of the students don't want to take any initiative in figuring out where they are going and how to get there, they just jump in the truck and think they are as free as a bird driving, just point the nose and go. Hubby has a roadmaster, but that is only as good as who is following it sometimes, it will get you into trouble if you aren't careful. Maybe it is too soon to expect a more gung ho attitude. -
As for the qualcomm, Its up to the student again, those who are technical may take a few hours to learn completely, those who aren't may take few months... just depends on the studentscottied67 Thanks this. -
Because I just sucked it up. I hated it and never got decent sleep.

Some students think they are still driving a four wheeler. The follow way to close and all that other aggressive driving stuff. Most of them act like its a race and your speed determines how good of a driver you are. Also as a phase 1 trainer you are responsible for that student even after he upgrades to solo status. If he/she gets into an accident they will look at their training packet and see if their phase 1 trainer followed all training protocols/guidelines. They basically want to point fingers.

Very true indeed... It falls back on the driver, the phase 1/2 trainer, the instructor at the school.... So yeah... Very true.scottied67 Thanks this. -

The instructors that were at my school taught well, and it takes maybe 3 weeks or less to learn shifting(double clutching) and a few days to learn how to float in phase 1 training (not an actual lesson but you'll learn if you want).... Some students are different, BUT it may take even months to learn how to shift... just depends on the student...

Thanks gt4jk I really don't know if CRE really trains students well in shifting in school, I don't think it is like Roadmaster School at least. Maybe in another week he will do better. I'm not sure of the qualcomm, told husband the guy needs to start writing cliff notes on how to log in and out, etc. where he can see the directions instead of relying on memory.
