I go in tomorrow for a driving test for the first time. I just graduated a driving school and was able to talk to the man who runs the company and he told me to come in tomorrow for a driving test. I've been waiting 2 weeks for this since I spoke to him. People that know him say that if he gave me that opportunity then I'll probably get hired as long as a don't do something extremely dumb. He doesn't usually hire newbies. . I was wondering what to expect for a driving test? What are past experiences ?

basically it boils down to, can you drive a truck.
that means making turns. not grinding gears.
i had one company that actually made me downshift AND back up in the yard for parking. -
Not sure if its needed for all companies, but pre-trip. A month ago i had another job, and bombed the road-test due to not doing it. Which was a bitt odd because the person giving the test didnt even try to watch from the start. Also pretty sure that tractor wasnt road worthy, shouldve been in the scrapyard. Yay logging companies lol.

Backing up in straight lines help.
Learning how to trip plan and understanding HOS (hours of service).
Know how to properly descend down a grade. -
Know your pre trip and walk the person testing you through the process, you want to show you know what you are talking about. In the truck take your time, hit your gears and remember to drive the trailer not just the truck. Constantly check your mirrors and gauges. Slow down, don't let the adrenline make you do something too quick. Show him you are confident and a safe driver, and you will do just fine. Good Luck

dont run OVER curbs or drag ur trailer thru the ditch......

When you do backing in a test, GOAL. My company would fail you on a road test even if you one shot it in perfectly and didn't GOAL. Doesn't matter if it was completely obvious that you didn't need to. It's just common sense to do it in front of someone who's testing to see if they can trust you with their equipment.
Ghost Ryder Thanks this. -
Well the test went good today and he said I did a great job. He actually put me to work and we picked up a load. I've never had a fully loaded trailor and we were going up a mountain going no faster than 35mph on interstate.... After we got back we discussed starting pay and it starts at .35 a mile loaded and .29 a mile unloaded. He said after 60 days I'll get my safety bonus.
RAGE 18 and Giggles the Original Thank this. -
