It is far easier to keep honest logs than to cheat in my opinion. Husband now has the e-logs which is somewhat easier, but mistakes can be made, such as forgetting to change duty status when stopping and if the qualcomm goes out it is a nightmare.

did I say falsifying?? NO!, I said "paper logs", but thanks for the post nonetheless
AXE, ismoniak and Milktanker Thank this. -
As I have been reading, e logs "jam" you because you cannot "explain" to the computer the intricacies of life in the road and have to shut down prematurely... is that what you are referring to?
-
Look at.one of the many threads on elogs. Even on paper those intricacies still cause a premature shutdown. It's not the fault of elogs, its just how it is. Paper logs encourage falsification. I wish people who've never used elogs would attempt to be accurately informed.
-
I'd love to see these paper logs that encourage falsification. Do they have little stamps on them saying "falsify me!" "do it now!" "you're a loser if you don't!"?BigRedBigRig and American-Trucker Thank this.

You have to hold it up to a mirror upside down to see it!

Who has to shut down ? I have had log errors that showed me in violation all day on the e-log but I reported the error in the remarks section and just went on . We have our e-logs paired to our Blackberrys and they will sometimes make a duty status change without us knowing it . When we notice it we just report the error and eventually it gets edited . I have never sat or stopped due to an e-log error or malfunction.

Many thanks for this post, and hopefully many more to come. I'm a newbie in SoCal with a week left of private CDL school, and Watkins looks to be my top choice (primarily because they have a pet policy, I've seen very little negative about them, and they are mid-sized as opposed to huge).
I suppose I'm a little nervous that I won't have a trainer on the road to start (just 10 days of orientation at HQ), but that would be another thread topic. Anyway - thank you for posting, and I'll be watching for more!
Do you like the company culture? What kinds of freight are you hauling (who are the clients?) Are you sitting a lot waiting for unloads?2021DREAM Thanks this. -
Hey, I too was a little nervous when I first went out solo, but that lasted only a couple of days.
I am really loving this company, most of the other drivers I have met seem to feel the same way, everyone has been very helpful here.
As for as freight, we haul a lot of different stuff, for example furniture, carpet, beer, tires, flour... We do a lot of deliveries to Home Depot/Lowes Dist centers, furniture stores etc.. Most of my loads have been mostly drop and hook, with the occasional live unload, longest I had to wait to unload was about 3 hours.
Ill try to update my numbers around the first, not as good as my first month, had some repairs done on my truck.. Good thing is they just brought up the breakdown pay from $50 to $100 per day, so i'm happy.
Good luck getting your cdl! Let us know if you come over to W/Sspunkymonkey and 2021DREAM Thank this. -
Totals for the month of July 2012: only 7818 miles.....
That includes 5 days off, 2 resets, about a total of four days lost waiting on repairs. I did eventually get a newer truck,
A 2008 Volvo.
July pretty much Su$%ed for me, I'm still feeling the effects of taking those five days off.
I guess thats how it is in this business, they can't always be good months. Anyways, I'm not planning on taking any home time in August, so I can get a decent amount of miles this month.. until next time amigos, be safe out there.123456, 2021DREAM, sherlock510 and 1 other person Thank this.
