On monday I start oit on my first oversize load. Nothing crazy, 12 ft wide, only 14000 . I'll be running down 81 to 77 to 85 from pa to georgia then us 431 to us 231 into panama city. I know most of the basics...running during the day and that in nc I need to make sure the permit states im going to get off the way for fuel. Just wondering if any of the states have funny little laws I need to know about? I'm pretty psyched to run it, just dont want any surprises. Thanx in advance!

Reels by some chance? Take your time, keep your passenger side tires on the white line, makes staying in your lane simpler. Drop your trailer to fuel, not really necessary at 12 wide but makes getting threw the islands easier, and double park, way simpler then finding you have. 5" on either side

Read your permits. Make sure that you are not going into area during quarantine time. Lots of towns like Okla City, Denver, etc will not let you on many roads during rush hour. If you get off the road don't stray too far. Most will let you go a couple of blocks to eat or fuel. But that can vary. Some are real arse wipes and will nail you for anything. Also make sure you have correct lighting, flags, banners. Normally 4 flags is good. N Mexico wants 6. I don't hog the road , but I PAID extra to be a big road hog so don't be afraid to take your share of road. Be careful and have a ball. People love to look at and wave to over size loads. Most will be friendly. Few will be giving you that single finger that you are #1. LOL

If you are going to be doing OD work get a copy of this.

But permit always takes precedence. They can put you on wrong roads some times so watch all bridges you come to. Read all the signs.

Thanx. I was worried about the fueling, amd the parking. But I guess since I gotta shut down so early i'll be able to double park easily. And yes qtip they are reels. I'm glad my first wide load only weighs 14.

They are good to have anyway but read your permit, it will tell ya if you do or not as some states require none and others require it along with an amber light permit. I always use 4 stick flags along with 2 bungee flags on each OD load. the (at least 2) bungee ones go on the widest part of the load. If you are going to do OD a lot, I would pick up the OD bible. It has a good qick rundown of the laws in each state.

Your going to need a Georgia Light Permit (its a little sticker for your window that allows you to use flashing lights in GA)

evey state is different on what they want. Wide load shipping has alot of the state regulations listed for some general info. Your permits will tell you what you need and that Ga blinking light sticker sure is a good little money maker for them. I never would have thought of that.
