Some states don't allow divisible rear overhang though.

I tried once from Cali to Utah. With some 8 foot round pipe. Load ended up on 2 trucks. 1 pipe per truck.

As long as the trailer is 48' or less, I've never had any issues with overhangs <4'. The rules change, though, with longer trailers. If you're pulling a 53' flat, you aren't going to be allowed to overhang without a permit, and they won't issue a permit for a divisible load.

How often they get enforced, I don't know, but there certainly are states that do limit that amount of overhang.

Let me see. One year coming into Maryland with an 11 wide load on Friday down I 95. Crossed the scales at the Susquehanna river got pulled in for inspection.
The nasty woman inside said "you can't pass through a toll plaza after 12 p.m."
I said "there is no toll plaza!" she said its on the Northbound side. I said I'm on the South bound side.

She then said yes that counts as a toll plaza even if there is no tolls.
The nasty nasty DOT woman then said you wouldn't be able to go through the Baltimore tunnel anyway.
I explained to this total bullcrap of a woman that my oversized permit shows and has me going around Baltimore on 695 and not through a tunnel.

The nasty nasty DOT woman said "Do you want me to write you a ticket? Your shutdown til Monday morning.

Now I want all the defenders of the DOT to explain that. The police do what they want, I've seen it more than once. Trust me, they make up stuff.

Oh yes they will. I've been going to Baltimore for 15 years. They pick on trucks and yes they make up stuff.
It wasn't all that long ago a video of a cop planting drugs was caught on video.
And then there was the Freddy Grey story.

My comment about load securement was sarcasm.
Sorry Pedigreed, Guess I forgot the (Sarc.) Tag.
    I thought it was obvious.

Now that you say that I don't think I got one. She just told me to park in the cornor of the lot til 8 a.m. Monday.
Maryland got so bad one year that Pennsylvania use to put up portable warning signs at the border for truckers not to park on the side of the road. Or the police would ticket you. Anyone remember that?

so wait a second here- your telling me that it's a Friday- your enroute to your destination..And some Lady at the scale just parks you for 3 days?

At a Scale-No Delivery made- No Food-No Potty- No Family- No Nothing?

Is it really that out of control out here anymore?

Treating Drivers WORSE than a criminal.......I Hope to GOD you told her where to go-And Pray that Her Family and Her own self Dissolve soon.

The Right thing to do was to have go to O'Donnell street to the truckstop for the night (Or weekend depending on your delivery)

I was able to drop my trailer and go home for the weekend 200 miles away.

I called the state police and spoke to someone in truck enforcement, they pretty much told me tough %=÷×$
