Hey everyone it's been a while since i've been on here. I've been waiting on getting my cdl's because i was trying to get everything situated here before I went. I currently work two part time jobs to make ends meet and im getting there but not fast enough. Bascially only thing at the moment im worried about is going to a company or a school to get my cdl's and either my health screening doesn't do good or I don't get the hang of driving a truck and they let me go and me not having a job when I come home. Losing everything I have is something that i really don't want to face. Basically I was reading on the prime inc website and they had some requirements like the blood pressure etc. I've lost 60lbs and I feel better but my blood pressure is a little on the high school and some time it will read less than 140 over 90 but sometime it will read higher. My question is pretty much is every truck driving job have these high requirements? Any suggestion on what i should do before making a commitment and going to a cdl school. Really only thing that worries me is the BMI and the Blood Pressure I think everything else im good.

First off, cdl has no s on the end, it is a singular object---CDL

Second, where you are located there are many companies that are NOT worried about the BMI index, Yet !!

But your blood pressure is very important. Focus on that........

ok as stated, it is an CDL.....NOT CDL's......only ONE........i don't know why so many others add the "S" to the CDL.....

in any event, the 140/90 is at the limit. you want to be BELOW these numbers. GO TO a doctor, get on the pill and live your life. you WILL NOT get a 2 year DOT card, you will ONLY GET a 1 year DOT card, like I DO and have been for about the entire 20+ years i've been driving.....it ain't NO BIG DEAL...

    step 1) GO TO DOCTOR

step 2) get onto BP meds....(your doctor may have to change these till a suitable dosage works for you, or maybe the first prescription he gives you works forever).

step 3) get a NEW DOT Physical

step 4) apply for jobs and when they ask for your health card you show them your NEW 1 year card.

step 5) if they send you for a DOT physical you will be asked if you are on meds, you will answer truthfully....

step 6) go drive a truck

ALL trucking companies follow the BP rules/regulations, DO NOT get around it, as this is the way it is, you ain't gonna-be the first driver on BP meds and you ain't gonna-be the last either.

as far as now the BMI, if you are a male and your neck size is 17", you WILL BE taking a sleep apnea test at YOUR expense.....the 17" is the max for a male, as far as your total BMI, go do a search on google for the PROPER weight for your height should be. if you 'tip" that BMI into the high end, you are screwed till you get yourself taken care of. these are going to be the rules/requirements we ALL have to put up with.

this ain't "your father's trucking job anymore".........

Everything you stated, is a no brainer.

High blood pressure can be controlled with medication. Get it, if you haven't already.

BMI....unless you have aids, are anorexic, or run 20 miles a day. Your BMI doesn't meet the "accepted" goobermint standard. Not an issue. Of course, I don't know how strict Prime will be.

When you take a "wellness" physical, if the company requires it. BREATH !! You would be surprised at the number of people who fail a wellness physical because they forgot to breath, and elevated their heart rate above acceptable levels.
