Hey all! My husband is fixing to start applying for driving jobs and I was reading about the physical part before you obtain your CDL. Is it a possibility that he wouldn't pass? I was further reading about a vision waiver he can apply for, would that be his only alternative if he didn't pass his physical? He has a drivers license and has good site in his eye, but due to a teenage fight he lost his other eye a decade ago. Thanks for any help!
My husband has one eye! Will he need a waiver?

If he passed the eyeball test for his DL, he should be fine. Dad passed it last week. 90 years old- -

I started off driving "Intra"state in Texas, and got a Vision waiver pretty easy. But when I decided to go "Inter" state,I had to apply for a medical variance exemption from the FMCSA.I had enough straight truck experience to cover the 3 year required experience needed.Google FMCSA Vision Exemption, and see.

Things may have changed in 15 years or so. I had a good friend who was blinded in one eye as a small child. He had an exemption on his vision. I don't remember what all it entailed to get. So it was possible at one time.
