Hi everyone. I'm brand-spankin' new here. I've lurked for a few months and finally joined up.
I was hired by a trucking company in September 2016 to work in operations, and it's been a really interesting experience so far. I worked with drivers on the receiving side (mainly in retail) before this, so I've had a lot to learn really fast.
The company I'm with is a new concern, but the owners have been in trucking for many years, so they bring a lot of experience (and several loyal owner/ops) with them. Right now, we're averaging about 20 tractors on the road, with continual growth planned to at least 50 units.
I'm always interested in everything I can learn about operating at peak efficiency and support for the people we have on the road. My responsibilities at work right now are assisting with dispatching, preparing invoices, communicating with drivers and brokers, handling the hiring process, onboarding new drivers, and managing our insurance, fleet cards, Comdata needs, and regulatory responsibilities.
My biggest challenges (besides the obvious needs for constant multitasking and 24/7 availability) are the constant need for the paperwork to be available (at least electronically) as quickly as possible, as well as managing the expectations of the drivers and the brokers at the same time.
I'm planning to attend the MidWest Truck & Trailer Show this year, and at least a few of us will likely head to Louisville for the national conference as well. I look forward to learning from your generously shared experiences!

I do all the local deliveries for a micro carrier where I live with 50 trucks.
We all torture the one dispatcher that has your position mercilessly lol.
We have a terminal manger, safety manager, three dispatchers, and someone is always in the office 24/7.
The terminal manger & safety manager dispatch as well.
There is one woman that does almost all the billing and payroll, and various paper work items associated with the trucks.PrimaryGal and Bakari742 Thank this.
