I am still here and still very happy. A lot has happened since my last post. I Will go over some of it quickly. I just got home from being out for 4 weeks (by choice). One thing that happened is I got sent over to my permanent dispatcher and I saw my checks cut in half. I was making around 1100 a week steady and then I was making 500- 600. I hated wallboard and building materials. I hate everything about it. From the #### pay on the loads to doping your trailer and getting pre loads where they loaded it so full there is no room for your tarps and other gear. So I gave it a good 3 weeks to see if it was going to improve or if I would start to like it and, No chance. Wallboard it usually shorter runs too and I like 500- 600 mile loads if not longer. So I talked to my dispatcher and the terminal manager in monaca and told them I was unhappy and wanted to haul steel. They said no problem. I kept my dispatcher and I am hauling steel for a month now and making about 1200 a week again.

I also got a pm from someone last week asking about the LP program. I do not know too much about it other than the lease trucks are the old 9400i that they want to get rid of because they have 5-700k miles on them. They will give you a good deal and they do maintain them pretty good and offer a warranty, but I have been looking into just buying a used truck from a dealer and bringing it there. I have not put too much thought into it since I want to learn more about the buiseness before I jump into something like that.

Still here. I am taking this week off to be with my family. My daughter was born 3 weeks ago (I was there) and I wanted to spend some time with her, my son, and wife. They had no problem with me taking a week off. I just asked a couple weeks out and my dispatcher said no problem. I do not have vacation days so it is unpaid, but I just saved a little money so I would have a cushion for the week off.
I am still working on getting out of the building materials division. I put that on hold, because I didn't want to get a new dispatcher and then say by the way I am taking a week off. So, I will continue to try to move after I get back. It is not as hard as it seems, but they are trying to keep me and fix the issue I am having in that division, when in reality there is nothing that can fix it. I just want to haul steel. I have not pushed the issue like I said because the vacation thing and I am making good money still.
Well I am out of words, but if anyone has any questions about PGT I will be happy to talk to you and help all I can. Just message me on here or PM me and I will write back.

    CRJ,

First, Thanks for your post! I read your experience and shared it with my husband and he decided to go to PGT. Like you he wanted to go with TMC but he was concerned about all the extra training time they required. He already has experience but hasn't driven in a few years. He got his licensed back and applied for jobs but he wasn't happy with the choices available to him. He decided to go to school, because when he first started driving in 2000 he just got his CDL outright with no schooling. He graduates next week and got offers from Melton, TMC and PGT. He starts PGT on April 29. They wanted him to start the 22nd but since he paid for the 160 hour class he wanted to finish it out. He is going to fly to Pitts instead of taking the bus. We live in VA and he wasn't feeling the long bus ride. I have a few questions for you and thank you in advance for your responses.

When you flew to Pitts, how long did it take you to get to the hotel from the airport? Did you catch a cab there?
Did you have any problems checking into the hotel?
Did you get reimbursed the fare of the bus ticket?
How much money do you recommend having as back up for whatever?

    Airborne Thanks this.

PGT is about 15-20 min away from the airport. I believe they will pay for the cab ride to the hotel. The hotel is about mile from the terminal. PGT will reimburse for the amount equal to what a bus
Would have cost. You may have to ask for it when you get into orientation. As far as bringing money to orientation. The hotel provides some sort of breakfast every morning. Pgt will then provide a meal voucher ticket for lunch and dinner. The expenses during orientation should be very minimal. But he is going to go out with a trainer for a few days. More than likely will be a local trainer but once you are out of orientation and with a trainer food is your responsibility. Also you should have no problem checking into the hotel being that pat owns it. And just to throw this out there....I am an ex company driver with PGT who is now an owner operator with PGT.

Thank you for covering that for me. This is the first moment I have had where I was not rushing to pick up or deliver.

I have been hearing that freight has increased big time. I'm running a dedicated account right now. What's your truck number and who was your recruiter?

Truck 20827. Phil was my recruiter, but I heard he got let go. Idk. I have been running pretty good for the last couple months, but I noticed the pay has increased a bit on the loads now. I am workig on getting my brother over here too. He is with carolina cargo now making 10cent a mile running teams east to west coast. Crazy, but he has an old felony. He is hopefully coming to orientation monday. I am being moved off bilding materials today to run steel from monaca. Hopefjlly I will get a new truck next week they say, but for now its the coffin.

Sorry to hear Phil was let go. From what I know of him and my talks with him in the past he is a good guy and straight-shooter. Other recruiters could take a lesson from him. He is frank, straight-forward and no bs and if something isn't right with the company, he has no problem telling you if you're straight with him. Perhaps his good points were his downfall as many companies don't want such integrity. Hope to heck that's not the case with PGT. Drive on, driver and good luck.
