Good to hear. Some of those store docks look like a blind drunk guy designed them.

only thing I see, from my own experience, is that dedicated training wont prepare us for trip planning.. I mean Ive backed into some messed up docs, even one hairy ### one in costa mesa off the main highway after driving 10hrs, talk about stress..
Most Target docs are cake, wide, few tight ones here n there, boulder, co for example.
What Ive been doing is when I takes breaks, and time permits, I try n back into one slot in a truck stop to get used to it. It's one thing to offset into a slot marked by cones, but someone elses 120K rig mear feet away is another thing.. :p

Kusanagi, wait till your going thru palm springs area after driving all night, and you get passed left n right while the wind is gusting.. After you experience that, a passing truck is cake bro lol..

Glad all things worked our for ya !

Sitting here in Show Low with about 40 hours of driving time so far. Picking up a load in Phoenix then heading out to Cali with it in a bit! Then I should be at my 50 and I'll be set to run teams!

I was # the swift training academy I passed but I noticed a few guys didn't even get their permit yet. So because they didn't get their permit they were given additional study time to pass their permit. 5-6 didn't pass and swift sent them home.

The instructors are great, and you will have a few days that will wipe you out, being in the sun 8 hrs straight is exhausting. Also note some instructors are more strict than others, I won't mention names but just know that you have to be on your best behavior all the time. (dont piss behind the trailer, dont fall asleep in the bunk and stay at the picnic tables when you are eating. )

Gratz on passing! Yeah, I can understand why they send you home after failing the permit test. If you do the online academy thing, it's easy to tell who studied for it by reading the CDL handbook (that they friggin give you) or who just kept retaking it memorizing what the answers were. If you won't take the time to study the CDL manual in the week or so leading up to heading out (or hell, the two nights beforehand!) there's no point in them teaching you how to drive the truck.

I'm in Phoenix right now and sick as a dog. I'm heading to urgent care tomorrow, hopefully I don't lose my mentor! He's a great guy, I'm learning a lot, and the thought of getting a mentor like the first one scares me...

I started to get a little tickle in my throat after orientation but before I met my mentor. I get coughs like that a few times a year so it was nothing unexpected or bad.

I don't think this would have gotten this bad if I didn't have that ####### of a mentor. I was white knuckled and freaked out and stressed the entire time I was with him, and my immune system forgets to work when I get like that. I've been putting it off as long as I could hoping it would get better but spent my first paycheck today on meds and the UC visit. Doctor was amazed that I was walking in there and waited as long as I did...and here I thought I was pre-empting it. Heh.

Hope you're feeling better kusangi. It looks like I'm going to be relocating to Visalia ca and going to Phoenix academy instead of millington and I have a few questions if I may. On the packing list it says no shorts and only collared shirts, did they not let you wear Tshirts or shorts? Was there a walmart within walking distance? Is there any other info or tips you'd like to pass on? Sorry if I hijacked your thread as that wasn't my intention just didn't want to start another thread just for a few questions. Thank you, and I'm happy you're doing so well. Oh and thanks for the gatoraid tip :biggrin_25514:

Since your not from Phoenix, I would watch that you don't have valley fever. Has the same symptoms of pneumonia, but if not treated right can kill you. If they didn't test for it you might want to have them do it. First test usually comes up negative so if you are not feeling better in a few days go back and have it tested for.
I was in the hospital for 3 weeks 6 years ago with a bad case that almost killed me. BE CAREFULL
