Yeah 6' SS and the Hustler HD antenna spring is (I think) 5". That would put right at 6' 6". I had my radio, coax, and antenna checked by another shop. Radio was put on a scope and swinging to 125w. Here lately haven't been getting out so good. Maybe skip is too high or lack of cb in the area. So, maybe a Skip Shooter would be a bit better than 5' FS.

So, I got my 6' SS in the other day. I haven't put them in the wind yet, but. I put it on and got a radio check. It seems to be getting out a good bit farther from the one come back I got. I just have to even up the swr (didn't have the right size allen wrench).

So thanks for the tip on that website $70 for 2 antennas shipped is better than 1 for $50 at the cb shops.

Skipshooter antennas are good, and the customer service from that site is as well. I bought a neon orange antenna that turned pink in a day, not even installed, they promptly sent out a replacement in a different color of my choosing. The quality is top notch, but they are narrow on the bandwidth. No issue if all you run is regular 40 channels, but if you freeband it can start to pose a problem.

Yeah I just do the plain old 1-40. The whole SSB is just too much and over my head.

I float between the lower 40 one band below CB and regular CB channels. I could run my to the local channel and get 1.1:1 SWR and go up to regular CB 28, I’d be looking at 2.6:1. But you should be just fine let us know how they tune out for you

I'm taking a page out of your play book.

20180826_120050.jpg I have the 6' Skip Shooter's tuned in. These have a lot of flex all the down to the base at highway speed. So, I got some 1/2" Charlotte pipe (slightly bigger than 1/2" pvc) cut to 30" and with some modification it fits over the antenna mount. And, then some black paint it looks great. A lot less flex, stays more vertical, still sends and receives great.
