Since I once worked at a carrier (inside the office) which had recently started a 'lease to own' program, I decided to look into it during my slow overnight shifts. From what I could see, they were leasing only the 'likely to become a problem' old Freightliners which came from one of our sister companies which had cash-flow problems before joining our amalgamation, therefore all these trucks had suffered from deferred maintenance and at roughly 600K miles each, would soon be needing MAJOR work. They also seemed to zero-in on the more 'cantankerous' drivers which were probably close to being separated from the company, giving them this as an option to stay.
Within about a year, EVERY_SINGLE_DRIVER had defaulted on his lease program. A few were hopping mad and had to be escorted off the premises; I understand one even made a death threat against the owner. And of course, my crappy company went into bankruptcy soon after, but not before the owner took the best drivers and vehicles and transferred them over to his "new company".
I'd love to give you all the details, but this guy is still in the business, and would probably sue. Just to summarize, those 'lease to own' programs are designed to separate the drivers from MORE money than they can earn from a company driver. Then, at the end they get the equipment back, and start over with a new sucker.

There's a clever phrase in almost all the ads for LPs. It says...usually in small print..."Make up to 12 thousand gross" Up to? That could be anything. Another good word to watch out for is "potential".
The OP found out we were right. Too bad he had to find out the hard way but it was his choice to disregard all the good advice he got here. His choice entirely.hotrod1653, Lonesome, lual and 1 other person Thank this. -

Been at Gulick for 2 years. My lowest settlement was $1,500 but that was my fault I took too much time off My best settlement was $6,800 in July of 2024. On average I pull in 4/5,000 every settlement. I get by the house at least once a week sometimes just for 34 reset sometimes for a couple 3 days. And the beauty of it I can walk away from this lease with my hands clean anytime Yes I've had my attorney look into it.
