as i can recall, back in the very beginning, my SS number WAS on my CDL, back in 1992 when they were first issued. i dreaded that. subsequent years later at renewal, it was no longer there. i think my state did it, as they could not carry over our old driver's license number for the new CDL system. other wise anything on our old drivers license would show up on our new CDL.

they had to have "separation" from one another

I got my Drivers License in 1976 in Arizona. Back then, your Social Security number was your DL number. Gave you the option of a separate number sometime in the 80's.

I think a safety deposit box for SS card is a bit too much. I actually carry mine, along with my birth certificate with Me.They're in a safe place. My License and cards, along with cash and keys stay in front pockets. Can’t lose a wallet if you don’t have one. Anyone that wants what I have will have to take it from my front pockets. License can be replaced, with required ID, Check with your DMV. They have a list of acceptable proofs, one of which is Birth certificate, and SOS card. That’s why I carry mine. Usually things like tax bills, Utility bills, are acceptable. SOS card being lost is a problem in the wrong hands.Might want to freeze your credit, for a while.

Your problem is going to be trying to clear up any tickets that whoever has your CDL may have gotten under your name. Because he sure as heck ain't gonna pay them so they will be going to warrants

One can always hope that any LEO that looks at that license isn't too much in a hurry or lazy, that they look at the person handing it to them to match them up.

How does the OP "know" their CDL was stolen?

One of the most important items a trucker can purchase.

Put 1,500 bucks in your wallet, you won't lose it that way.

My first SS card was issued to me in 1974. It is still in my wallet (yes the exact same one) and I can't remember a time that it wasn't tucked away in my wallet. Not saying it's a good idea, but I've always had it with me.

I did lose mine once, luckily I had other ID, was able to get to my State and get a new one. Keep Trucking. Along with a copy of title for Truck and Trailer.Copy od CDL, though I’m told it’s not legal to drive with. At least I can identify myself. Might be the difference between going to jail or getting a ticket. Sounds paranoid I’m sure. But you never know. I’ve been a arrested once for shoplifting a .75 item once. I was proven innocent, but still spent 5 hrs in a Detroit jail bullpen with hardened criminals.

I don't like spending 5 hours within 25 miles of Detroit
