I have a question it may be answered but I don't remember seeing it - what is the payback time for a conversion to MB bearings?

It will be different for everyone. 3 axle tractor you can expect about 3/10 gain. Add trailer 2 axles and those will add another 4/10. This is provided you install them correctly. I believe the end play must be set to 0.004".

The parts cost $950 for tractor and $650 for trailer. $1600 for parts and let's do 2 scenarios, you do the job yourself and you pay $1000 to have them installed. We will also assume diesel holds $4/g.

    $1600:
If your mpg now is 5 mpg (0.80) goes to 5.7 (0.70), then payback = 16,000 miles
If your mpg now is 6 mpg (0.67) goes to 6.7 (0.60), then payback = 22,857 miles
If your mpg now is 7 mpg (0.57) goes to 7.7 (0.52), then payback = 32,000 miles
If your mpg now is 8 mpg (0.50) goes to 8.7 (0.46), then payback = 40,000 miles

    $2600:
If your mpg now is 5 mpg (0.80) goes to 5.7 (0.70), then payback = 26,000 miles
If your mpg now is 6 mpg (0.67) goes to 6.7 (0.60), then payback = 37,142 miles
If your mpg now is 7 mpg (0.57) goes to 7.7 (0.52), then payback = 52,000 miles
If your mpg now is 8 mpg (0.50) goes to 8.7 (0.46), then payback = 65,000 miles

Looks about right to me. Of course, if you're getting above 7.5 mpg before microblue bearings, a 0.3 mpg increase is huge at that level. It's hard to find fuel economy savings that large once one is up in that region.

    Frenzy Thanks this.

I'm curious if after an inframe with MB you can use the new 10-30 oil instead of 15-40. This will increase fuel mileage. Also can lighter oils be used in trans and rears?

Micro Blue: Im going to buy/try the treated Wheel Bearings.

I'll need to know this products real value in MPG increase/decrease.

First, I need to established my trucks pre-micro blue treated wheel bearings MPG, taken from at least 3-4K gallons of diesel fuel purchases. (idle time, dead head, variable loaded weights...hauling a 53' reefer trl.).

After I've install the treated wheel bearings, then I'll follow up by posting my results...ANY CHANGES, +/- to my trucks MPG at 1K gallons, 2K gallons, etc...up to 5K gallons of diesel purchasing.
(If, im missing something add a note...I work hard all day, and, don't get involved with starting Case Studies.)

A description of My Truck is: 2006 Freightliner Columbia, MBE 4000, auto trans, smart shift 10spd. Tires are Michelin Lo-Pro 22.5. (new tires, using balancing beads.). Pre-Micro Blue Wheel Bearings Avg.Mpg @ 1300 gallons, 6.62 MPG. I still need to gather more data on my fuel purchases before the treated wheel bearing purchase. (to be Continued)

Thanks for the info, I can see the pay back. I have to ask a follow up,

have these been tested by any lab or some sort of controlled test with some standardized testing for comparison?

You should see 0.3 to 0.5 mpg improvement.

Microblue has been used in the aviation and racing world for years. It's proven technology, from NASA research and development, I believe. So, when it comes to trucks, give Bruce Malinson a call at Pittsburgh Power. They have documented the results from a microblue engine rebuild via the power delivered to the wheels on a dyno.

Do you own the trailer also? I would point anyone to do your trailer axles first. I saw an immediate .4 mpg gain from doing 2 axle reefer. This was after i did my 3 axle tractor and saw .3 gain. Tranny and rear ends are on my list. eventually the engine when it is time.

A great website to post fuel mileage results and compare with a few thousand other trucks posted on there is: www.mygauges.com

This includes alot trucks with Microblue modifications documented.
