I was lucky today, in a way. Though the outside temp started at -10F this morning and managed to climb only to +8F all day - and outside it's now +1F - I didn't get any snow. In fact, I got to use my first-ever prescription sunglasses and I quite like them.
Tomorrow might be a very different story since I'll be heading to Pontoon Beach. We will see.

Sitting in Enid, OK to load tomorrow morning for Russellville, AR then off to Tolleson, AZ for Saturday. Good times for the moment. They got mad at me earlier because I got to Edmond, OK at 3:15 this morning for a 5:00 am delivery. I had to run at night because of lack of hours. I had to stay up in order to not oversleep the delivery time and ended up oversleeping the pick up. Which I told my DM about. Yeah well. I was tired. This happens. I couldn't have left until at least 11:15 for an 8 hour break and just make it to Enid. Gotta do what I gotta do. And I had to sleep. I'll be darned anymore to not sleep because of hours.
TruckDuo Thanks this. -

Enjoy your home time. Don't take to much time or you will be like me and contemplating not to come back. I was trying to figure out how to make a living in Belize when I was down there. Fixing golf carts and bikes came to mind since those are the main means of transportation besides boats in San Pedro.tow614 and Weeble Kneeble Thank this. -
Ok....here it is....
Today i gave my notice to gti/heartland that i have accepted a driving position with another company. As I sort of expected it was no big deal. I am sure this has become routine for driver managers by now to have their drivers call in to resign.
Since I waited until I got home for hometime to tell them, i was told they would simply get me a load straight to indy so i can turn my truck in and that is all. No paperwork or nothing.. just as well.
I did tell my dm that as far as i am concerned i did not quit gordon.. gordon quit me... i never applied to work for heartland so we were all square.
He did ask where i was going and i told him. I am going to work for a small fleet in tennessee. 150 trucks with better freight and very good equipment. Average length of haul over 700 miles.. mostly southwest and west back to southeast..dry van...2013 and 2014 cascadias fully equipped and elogs which i like.
The pay is close to what i got at gti but i will no longer be running those midwest runs which i never signed up for.
I told my dm when this all started that i would wait and see what happened but at first sign of my miles/pay dropping that i would be gone.
2 weeks ago after being out for 2 weeks with less than 3k miles for that time i told them if they gave me one more short run i was going home. They then sent me a 150 mile preplan and i followed with my timeoff request and put my application in with this company.
I had been looking ever since the sale of gordon was announced. When Larry Gordon told us in our meeting that there would be no significant changes for 6 months to a year, i simply interpreted that as how long i had to find a decent job. I never had any intention of working for heartland.
I will say that when i first began looking i was quite depressed because there really are not that many good companies out there. Most of them are just slave traders at best.. i dont want to offend anyone with that description but that is what many of them think of their drivers. At one point i tried to convince myself that heartland couldnt be that bad,, but then i came to my senses.
I have no intention of starting a new thread waging a personal crusade against gordon..gordon was very good to me and my wife ..i appreciate our time there.
But alas.. gordon is gone....
It may take a little time but even Larry admitted that in the end gti will disappear and it will be all heartland.
For anyone looking to go with gti/heartland.. apply to heartland.. if you do not want to work for heartland then do not apply to gordon. Why would you want to work somewhere that is being transformed into a company you would not want to work for. Simply does not make sense.
If you want to work for heartland or ignore the advice then do not come on here crying about how bad it was after going there...i know some do like heartland..more power to them..it is just not how i want to live.
I plan to hang around this thread if joseph does not mind. He and i have developed a great friendship and i have a lot of respect for him as a professional driver. He is one sick and twisted sob but that is his good side...lol
I have made a good friendship with greyhound also and plan to keep in touch on a regular basis. You never know but trucking may bring us all back together as one big happy family again...to be honest we dont have to work for the same company to be family. I enjoy chatting with everyone on here.. that is except for he whose name shall not be mentioned for fear of the mods,,,lol...
Oh well..i am off now to start cleaning out my smurf truck and get ready to begin in my new maroon cascadia..
Hence the picture....
My new ride with a heartland behind it. I took it as a sign when i saw that the other morning...
Oh....and there will be further updates in the weeks to comeLast edited: Jan 24, 2014
