Well..day 1 of orientation is over and i am pleasantly impressed so far...very nice people, clean facilities and spotless equipment..after coming from gti who refused to pay for truck washes..these guys require trucks to be washed every 2 weeks on their dime and trailers once a month..also when going into california all trucks are required to stop in kingman and wash truck and trailer no matter what before crossing the state line...

All trucks have xm/sirrius radios factory installed..bluetooth handsfree in cab system for cell phones thru stereo...go figure

I realize these things dont put money in your pocket but it does give a glimpse of what a company thinks of its drivers..

Day 1 was a good day...

Do they also pay for the Sirius/XM subscription or do you have to?

I love my Sirius music; it's the one thing I'm grappling with now in this truck. My current antenna placement sucks, so I need a daytime 10 to fix it. But I don't want to do anything too labor-intensive or permanent because with 285,000 miles, I'm betting on a replacement in the not-too-distant future. And I hate expending energy that's not going to give me a return on investment.

Tape it to the top of the passenger side mirror.

You should be getting your truck tomorrow right ?

I sure hope so. Carrying 14,100 pounds of whatever in the snow, up and down icy mountain roads is getting old. And tomorrow's load starts with 41, not 14...guess I'll just have to balance more on my head.

And now you know why I'm getting such lousy reception--it's hard holding the antenna up, too. I sure do need a truck.

Hunkered down in Council Bluffs Motel 6 for now and going to wait out the big storm coming through Missouri....they have issued a no travel advisory which I intend to heed. Depsite several messages they changed my appointment to 0500 tomorrow....ain't gonna happen!!!! I would hate to be on the end of a ticket after putting one in a ditch with a no travel advisory out!!!

I got moved into my truck. 2013 Cascadia like I had at gti but this one is maroon..110k on it...

gotta do a little cleaning on it.. I dont think the previous driver left voluntarily.. only a couple more trucks available and I know who is getting one of them next week... skooter....lol after that they have 30 new ones coming in to increase the fleet.. they dont plan on getting too big..just 120 right now plus the additional 30...

stocking up at walmart now then first load in the morning...

Just read the press release on Heartland earnings and came across a few lines of the same old same old and then this: GTI will be taking delivery of 1,000 trailers to replace 2007 and older dry vans. While this is good news for the dry van fleet, it says nothing about replacing the aging reefer fleet, nor the aging heavy haul fleet. GTI have been updating the tractors on a regular basis, including heavy haul tractors. But to not get rid of some of these reefers, many which are 7-10 years old, kinda makes me wonder about the future of the reefer and heavy haul divisions, mainly the reefer division. Another thing is I've heard from a few that Heartland does not haul alcohol or related products because of some archaic religious BS. I couldn't imagine leaving that much money on the table considering how much we do with beer and the PNW wine industry. There will be an investor conference call tomorrow at 10 am EST so I hope someone is able to ask this stuff.

As the two companies learn more about each other and the new owner forms a clear understanding of what the new company will look like, the change process will accelerate. That will be the difficult part; humans don't like change much. We are what is called homeostatic beings...we like things as they are. Our "normal," if you will. When something happens to change our 'normal,' we feel angst to a greater or lesser degree. It will happen to all of us - how each of us reacts to it is as individual as we are. For my part, I don't spend much time pondering things I can neither change nor influence.

Heck, I'm still trying to figure out the macro system and trying to make sure Rachel gets all my paperwork in proper time so I can get paid! Both are chores, I assure you.
